DragonSlayer - Starbyte CDTV Demo

Hiya,

I was having a browse though various fakebook groups and came across a post from Eric Cubizolle from the Commodore Amiga group.

Dragon Slayer is an unreleased game which was ripped Christian Weber. Eric was kind enough to share the ISO publicly,

Eric's website which is where the ISO is stored is at

http://amigamuseum.emu-france.info

Inside the "Unreleased" section

I Hope Eric and or Christian are members here @ eab and pop in sometime to say hi

In the meantime Thanks to both guys

I have uploaded the ISO in the eab server under ransom1122

Very, very early tech demo. Nothing really playable. An endless sidescrolling level with disabled collisions as it seems.

In the game press the <Left Mouse Button> to skip to the next stage; so you'll be able to see more

Ok, so have been messing around.

Seems the CD image is corrupt...

Reason I say this is that it's 213MB but there are no audio tracks. The data is only 4.36 MB.

Tried to convert from .ISO --> .BIN & .CUE but thousands of errors at about 5% of conversion...

Maybe there were audio tracks, but not any longer...

Anyway, the intro and game are in the following folders respectively:
  • WODINTRO [1.30 MB]
  • WODGAME [1.82 MB]
I've actually made a .HDF with just the Intro and Game.

It will run on KS 1.3 / 2.04 / 2.05 perfectly.

On AGA and with either KS 3.0 / 3.1, you need to use "KillAGA" before running either the intro or game; plus there is flickering on the menu screen of the intro.

Could just be CD padding

That is strange...

Tested with the original CD image via a CDTV configuration and the .HDF I've just created.

<Left Mouse Button> definitely skips through levels in the "game" part

Who knows, but you can't convert successfully to another format... errors everywhere.

Not important though; the data (WODGAME & WODINTRO) is intact

Sorry, you are correct with a standard CDTV configuration...

When running from hard drive I noticed that it needs about 800KB Chip and 2300KB Fast RAM.

So, you need to add more RAM; say "4MB Fast" to be safe and then all is good

Here are the different levels:

There was a 5th one with a castle / monkey boss but usually the game exits before you see this... I've only seen twice, and the game exits within 2 seconds.

Hmmm, playing around again...

I really hate setting non-real world / unrealistic configurations but it seems you need to with this game in order to see more.

It seems the game keeps stacking files into memory after each stage and doesn't clear the last stage's...

So, set 8MB Chip RAM and now I see the "Ape" stage followed by another "Dragon" stage:

...before the game crashes saying not enough Fast RAM:

If I try combinations of Chip & Fast RAM however, I can't get it to load the "Ape" stage before crashing...

Maybe someone can work the sweet RAM settings.

Hmmm, I also don't get speech like in this video:

[ Show youtube player ]

Seems I'll have to revisit my .HDF...

Well, there's definitely no speech using the .ISO that ransom1122 linked too with a CDTV configuration; no matter what crazy RAM I set.

Can one of our French members contact the author of this video to see how speech has been enabled?

Maybe he has another non-corrupt image... or...

This is probably a reading and auto-speech software, running in background. Doesn't sound like a human voice. There are no CDDA tracks on the disc.

No way. This quality is not possible with the 8-pit Paula and a 7MHz CPU. It's going to be a different ISO image with CDDA. Or edited in by the YouTube author.

I meant a PC software. Not something on the Amiga site of course. It's quite easy to do something like that these days.
