Lightbulb Setpatch a3000 crash with BigRam+ 256 installed

Hey guys,

Just received my BigRam+ 256MB card, installed it in my A3000D (68030-25Mhz unmodified other than Buster11 and latest Scsi module, 8MB onboard zip DRam) with superkickstart 3.2.1 and AmigaOs 3.2.1 freshly installed.

Boots fine without the BigRam+ card in.
With the BigRam+ installed (in any zIII slot), my startup sequence freezes on the SetPatch command early on.

If I skip SetPatch (in trace mode), the amiga boots up ok and the memory shows up fine!
Although I then do get a warning on the following command Cpu CHECKINSTALL in the startup sequence, that says "the 68030 library is missing, leading to instability and caching issues".
If I type CPU in a shell after boot, it shows the process as 68030 68882... (with no mention of MMU)

Setpatch should be the latest one installed by the 3.2.1 installer, v47.5 - and when it doesn’t crash it does list a few things like the 68030 support code which explains why it complains about missing lib and MMU? (Even if have the 68030 library in LIBS

Otherwise seems stable, copied like 200MB from DH0: to Ram: with no problem.
So the card hardware-wise seems ok, and compatible with my 8MB zip Ram on motherboard? (no mix with static column or anything like that)

If I remove the BigRam+ card, Amiga starts up fine as usual again, and setpatch loads ok with Cpu checkinstall throwing no warning, and if I type CPU I get the full 68030 68882 68030-MMU.

Any ideas? Is there a jumper on the a3000 to say I have ziii memory alongside the motherboard one?
Do I really need Setpatch with such recent Roms installed? (3.2.1)
And if not, how to enable MMU/remove this cpu checkinstall worrying warning? (knowing I do have a 68030 library in the LIBS folder, not sure why it complains there isn't)

Thanks all!
Jbb

How much RAM is on this card? If it is a lot of RAM, it will take some time for SetPatch.

Generating the MMU setup for that amount of RAM costs time. But I see the expert already joined the chat ??

Thanks for your suggestions Thomas and Hedeon: This is a BigRam+ ZIII card which is 256MB.
When I type SetPatch, it freezes for good. Never ends, or give back control. And when I reboot, I get a Guru Meditation 8000 0003, Task 07809930. So it's not a long validation time, unless we're talking over 15mn??
SpeedGeek, I'll have a deeper look at the thread you listed - sorry for bothering everyone with a repeat question, I didn't spot that thread before but I did plenty of research on setpatch A3000 crashes before posting... my issue being with a stock machine with original full 68030, without accelerator or bridgeboard, booting fine on the latest system before and suddenly crashing with a simple memory expansion card felt like a new thing worth exposing to others.
What exact libs should I see in my libs folder? 68030.library and mmu.library? I also see in there some 68040.library and 68060.library from my older boot drive. Maybe those pollute set patch? Should I remove them all and simply install clean stuff from the formal 3.2 and 3.2.1 installer? Do I then need to go download the mmu lib pack from Aminet on top?
Many thanks for you help. I know it feels like obvious stuff to you experts, but for most of us coming back to the 'Miga after 25+ years, we need serious refreshers!

Quick update: removed all the cpu and mmu libraries from my Libs: folder, and installed the cpu support files from the main 3.2 install, it asked for MMUlibs floppy and installed the 680x0 and mmu libs over again.
Quick reboot: and it works!!! Boots with setpatch working as is, no more warnings about missing lib! Yeepee! - My guess is that was some old lib in there from an old install, and I skipped that particular section of install in the first place, being a tickbox at the bottom of the installer.
Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Hopefully it will help someone else down the line too.
Cheers,
JBB
