Amiberry (Pi) cannot read large hdf (8Gb)

I have a 8Gb HDF file I use with my Windows UAE and I am placing this on my Pi using Amiberry. I have the HDF working on WinUAE and have other HDFs working with Amiberry (as well as ADF and CD32 images), but when I load the 8Gb is comes up with the following error on my Pi3:

"No Disk Present in Device DH0"

I can only assume this has something to do with it being large (8Gb) file, even though it has two 4Gb partitions.

Any suggestions/help would be very much appreciated.

I have spent the last year sorting out WHDLoad on the HDF so all my games are running well using this one HDF file.

This depends on the version of Amiberry you're testing with.
There were some issues with large HDF files and unicode support in directories in earlier versions, which got fixed later on.

The current release (v4.1.6) should not have such a problem anymore.

Ok, on Dietpi I had to run a custom software command. It was Dietpi-software reinstall 108.
This takes it to v4.1.5 which is one release behind the current version. Not sure why. Spyhunter, you did not say what OS was running your Amiberry install, but the above command is specific to Dietpi. I will say it is blindingly fast on my pi400. It boots to the Amiga in seconds.

Looks like you're running an old version of Retropie, as that version of Amiberry is quite old now.
Retropie is a special case, as they only provided Amiberry up to version 3.3 until recently - I provided them with details on how to upgrade to the latest, but I'm not sure if they've adopted that yet.

But in any case, you should at least get up to v3.3 with Retropie, if you're using the latest release of that distro. You might need to refer to the relevant forums for more details on how to upgrade your Retropie installation.

4.7.1 is the latest version, and that should let you upgrade Amiberry at least up to v3.3. Please check with the RetroPie guys if you're having trouble with that, as they explicitly requested that such issues are forwarded to them first

Fat32 which your SD card is formatted to for use with AmiBerry only supports file sizes of 3.9 gigabytes. If you want a larger partition you will have to use a file disk (mounted directory as a hard disk) rather than an hdf.

This is not a limitation of AmiBerry, but by the Fat32 filesystem of the SD card.

So is EXT4 equivalent to FAT32 for limitations as my file is on the EXT4 partition?

Latest update: I downloaded 4.7.1 again and upgraded the clean install to Amiberry 3.3
Copied over my files from my old card to the new sd card.

Ran amiberry using the hdf (8gb) and it no longer errors, loads the hdf but stops at workbench script - cursor - doesn't go anything further. any suggestions please? I seem to be betting slightly further

ok latest test reveals i have a 500mb wb hdf file (copied from my 8gb workbench) - and i have it loaded with 2 other hdf files, each 8gb (but split into 2x4b in amiga) - so i can run whdload files from the 8gb hdf files but cannot boot into 8gb file as dh0.

I have never tried such a large boot partition myself. What version of the Amiga OS are you using? To be honest having a smaller boot with key applications makes sense and the you can mess around with the other disks as you see fit.

it's only wb 3.1, nothing too new - with 2mb chip, 4 mb fast. runs all my whdload files then without a hitch

Ok, I know I had to keep my compact flash cards under 4GB for my 3.1 1200. It did not like bigger drives. I actually kept the boot partition to 1GB. That was fixed in 3.1.4 and 3.2. Maybe that is the cause of the issue?

I have never used 3.3 through 3.9, but as long as it works, you should be good. Just have backups, just in case of corruption.
