Kickstart screen on A500

Have finally tracked down some Amiga floppies and I've been testing them over the last few days. Many work and then again many don't. WB worked I'm happy to say so did about 30 others.

The kickstart screen has started playing up. Often when I switch off then on again the picture of the floppy is white in color not dark (I'm using a mono cable). Then sometimes the ks screen is even more corrupted. This seems to only happen 1 out of every 3 switch ons.

The other day I opened the Amiga to clean the dusty keyboard. Could tipping the Amiga over have pushed a chip out of it's socket ?

Also, can I reset the Amiga using the Keyboard ?

Yes. Believe it or not I took an A500 into a repair shop only to have them drop it on a desk to reseat a loose chip. Apparantly there were speed bumps at the Commodore factory that loosened the Agnus chips up.

Back to topic, I'd open it up and push all the chips down a bit.

Thanks for the help lads. I'm very happy to say that a couple of hours ago I found, yes found another Amiga 500 (thank christ for curb side garbage collection). I've got it playing Robo Cod 2 as I type. A bucket load of disks came with it and the ram expansion looks in good shape (no leaky battery) but have yet to test it.

I have another a500 that seems to work just fine (the kickstart screen comes on no probs) until you put a disk in it. The disk drive churns over for three clicks then back to kickstart. Would I be correct in guessing that the drive is stuffed or dirty ?

yep, put a head cleaning disk in there

just insert it about 10 times, if that works and you can boot to a cli or workbench, here is an archive with 4 pieces of head cleaning software (1 should work)

If not, just swap a drive from another 500 to check the rest of the machine os ok.
