A4000: Strange reset
I've recently upgraded to OS3.5. I got me self those 3.1 ROMS and installed OS3.5. Everything went fine. Thing is that when I installed it, I put the roms in, switched on and installed the OS. Then I switched off, went for holidays and came back last week. Didn't do any tests at all. I swithed on and I noticed that my Amiga starts reading from the HD and after 2-3 secs it resets and reboots. It boots ok after that.
If I reset using the keyboard while in WB it doesn't do this again. It only happens when I start my computer by switching it on from the power buttton. I suspect it has to do with something in the Startup sequence because the computer doesn't crash right after I switch it on (so to suspect a ROMS problem). This is a 'clean' install. Only programs that were added was IDEFix simply because the in-bulid OS3.5 support for my 4-way IDE interfaces didn't work, and Picasso96. First entry in startup-sequence is If exists C:IDEFIx C:IDEFix end if I suspect it may be the IDEFix that causes the problem. How can I unistall it and check again? I prefer to try altering things a bit first before I re-install OS3.5 from scratch. Thanks in advance. |

![]() ![]() This is normal for OS3.5+ (and for IDEFIX) if you look in devs: you will see a file called 'AmigaOS ROM Update' this is a patch for the rom, when you first run setpatch it loads this file, then resets so it will be used... I only happens from a cold boot Again: It is not a problem, it's supposed to do it ![]() |

god darn it Severin!
I was going to answer this one!
*laugh* ![]() *thinks* okay, further to add, if in the future you use a kickstart remapper for rom shadowing etc you can get tools that'll extract the Amiga OS Update into modules and even have the option (recommended) to make workbench.library + icon.library memory resident too... the reason for this might be a little obsecure but in some situations this will add stability as well as removing the neccessity to reset twice... okay, I feel better now ,) |

Slayer: oops, sorry m8, but I would have thought that you would have already answered it as your 12 hours ahead of me
![]() Hmmm, only problem I can think of is that at the moment I'm about to go out into the dark, find a pub and consume strange liquids, whereas your already in tomorrow morning and have the 'delicate' head wedged into the 'big white phone' ![]() |

Thanks guys! I can sleep properly tonight because I was starting to freak out a bit!
Slayer, you future solution sounds nice, but if this reset is normal, I don't care much. Besides, by being an AFS user, I love to reset my Amiga while booting just to demonstrate to those PC users the beauty of Amiga. No limits! Boot up in 14 secs and reset whenever you want to do so! Mmmmagic! |
