New Warp 1260

Hi:
I've just heard about this new accelerator and I would like to know more.
But I've only found this place telling about it: https://amigaalive.blogspot.com/2018...tor-board.html

Anyone care to summarise in English (briefly) what’s going on in the 19 pages of thread? I have a spare 68060 cpu and an A1200!

Check post 527. You can see prototypes. Same features like WARP560.

Looks nice, wonder how fast it will be...

And how much it will cost.

Pictures look lovely!

I meant could someone briefly summarise what is going on as in - is this available? Is it WIP? I can see a long list of names, is that pre-orders? From other comments I guess there is no price?

Etc.

I guess 19 forum pages through google translate when I have a spare day it is then

Typically the later the revision of DDR the higher the bandwidth but the much higher the latency.

I guess it really depends on the RAM traffic profile of the Amiga (I imagine it is not particularly DDR3 friendly) and if they implement a 2nd Level cache in their CPLD/FPGA.

It's quite easy (albeit not cheap) to find A3000/A4000 040 accelerators which you can convert into 060 accelerators using the numerous adapters that have been made over the last few years.

Not to mention the reproduced A3640 and A3660 (A3640 with integrated 060 adapter)

Exactly this, DDR3 for a 060 might be a really bad idea if there is no caching.

For reference, this is exactly why boards like the MiSTer have addon's with plain old DRAM's.

I am sure (hope) the team sourced some 060 before this work started. As here is what I have been offered (non-eBay sources):

XC68060RC60A 01G65V - $600 each!!!
MC68060RC60 (no photo or mask ID) - $268.66 each!!
MC68060RC60 (mask ID shows 040, but pins show 060?) - 550 euros each!!!

Are there really enough stockpiled at sensible prices for a real hardware accelerator? You can see why FPGA is so so tempting in these times.

@MartinW - it seems very much WIP. I think they just soldered up their 1st PCB with all components. Now they need to look at 'glue logic' linking all the bits together. The list is just a 'showing interest' list. Specs seem to be a 68060 with RTG/HDMI & 16-bit audio with a nice dollop of RAM.

I am not sure how they are setting the Clock of the board as depending on CPU rev depends on what speed you can run and I think there is just a SMD oscillator not socketed.
CPU was soldered, but it looks like it is socketed now (or maybe that is just because they are developing the PCB).

Price wise - I guess the main variable is the CPU. You would call custom retro hardware such as MiST FPGA (200 euros retail) and a Vampire V2 (380 euros) low run devices so the Warp 1260 PCB could be between those price points (minus CPU). Spectrum Next was £175 (less than 3000 sold) with a keyboard and expensive plastic mouldings. PCB was ~£100.

You can buy legit rev6 060s from a number of reputable individuals on here, Exxos forum, Amibay and the Amiga FB group for a lot less than those prices. More in the region of €120

yes, 060 prices aren't actually that bad when you look at actual sales.

Keep in mind 2 things:

Ebay, selling prices are not buying prices.
Part brokers, they supply companies that /need/ some ancient part for a important business/industrial system, they are less cost sensitive and thus willing to pay.

Wow, someone's actually making an accelerator that wasn't outdated in 1995! Love your work!

This looks like a nice project. It also looks like already in an advanced state (although I don't read Polish so cannot really say). Does anyone know when it will be available and what the expected price will be?

Isn't the lack of memory on these board a bottle-neck?
