Happy Real Port of WORKBENCH on LINUX?

Hi,

I had the idea, or dream, to use WORKBENCH Desktop and Applications natively on Linux.

I would be possible to code a small WM in C that take the workbench to Linux, 1:1 like it is today (in its various tones), and to create a free amiga sort of rom that would read from this Linux Workbench all our conventional Amiga applications.

It is not necessarily a lot of work. First would be to port this WM, and then bring the amiga reader to this new sort of OS.

Christmas Greetings

If I am not mistaken there is already some work done. It is old, but could be updated:

AmiWM is just a normal X11 window manager, which looks a bit like Amiga Workbench, but that's all.

Xeratul wants to run Amiga M68k workbench applications under Linux, which requires a full AmigaOS running. And also an M68k emulator, as long as you don't plan to run Linux/68k on 68k hardware.

When you have to make an emulator anyway, I think that running UAE would be the best solution.

Christian Vogelgsang did start a project to do something similar - VAMOS - albeit with the more modest goals of running CLI programs:

It's far from complete, but apparently can partially run SAS C!
