ICD Adspeed/AdIDE info?
I've acquired an ICD Adspeed/AdIDE board through ebay and it arrived today.
![]() I understand that it will autoboot with WB1.3, but there's no docs with it. Does anyone know if it supports more than 1 hard drive as per the standard PC IDE specs. Is it just a plug into the cpu socket or do I need to solder jumpers (None currently attached to the board). Does anyone have a scan of the manual? I am seriously in need of info. ![]() Thanks. ![]() |

Manual for AdSpeed standalone board can be found at: http://amiga.resource.cx/manual/AdSpeed.pdf Don't know if this will help, since your board will be slightly different. I had one the the plain AdIDE boards many years ago, and it just plugged in between the 68000socket and the CPU from memory. Red |

My AdSpeed arrived in the post yesterday with docs. At the back is an advert for AdIDE and it says it only supports 1 drive.
The AdSpeed (accelerator part) doesn't even need a switch wiring - you can toggle the speed ON/OFF with a small program. It even lists the assembler program in the manual which is nice ![]() |

You might still want to consider adding a hardware switch to the Adspeed for the occasional game that isn't AmigaDOS but likes a little boost in speed rather than only use the program from startup-sequence. There's nothing to it, and you can just (if you don't mind it looking bad) have a couple wires sticking out of the expansion port. (assuming an A500) And with it in the off position, you can be sure (or reasonably sure) you've still got compatibility.
I used to have an AdSpeed and thought it was quite good for what it was. LHA and other decrunchers were a lot faster, and some flight sims too (well, at least Fighter Duel, if memory serves.. that was a favorite of mine.) |
