Hd installer amiga600
Hi amigalovers,
After experimenting with tracksaver gui and adf conversion from a pcmcia card i accendentally removed some files from my a600 internal HD system dir and after reboot the harddisc can't boot anymore. Where can i find images of Hd install discs or similar (preferably adf), and instructions how to use them since it's been so long that i installed a HD on an amiga. Thnx in advance |

You cannot make a HDD non-bootable by removing files. A HDD is marked bootable in the partitioning tool. The system will boot from this partition no matter if there are files on it or not.
If you deleted some files, just copy the missing files from the Workbench disk. If you don't know which files are missing, just copy all files from the Workbench disk. Note that Workbench disks are still under copyright. They cannot be legally copied. If you no longer have your Workbench disks, you have to buy new ones from your favourite Amiga dealer. If you need a partitioning tool and don't have the Install disk, you can use HDInsttools instead. http://www.aminet.net/package.php?pa...isc/hdinst.lha |

Ok Thomas,
Workbench disks are no problem, i have the originals intact. So if the HD suddenly stopped booting and is still operative (on reboot the hdlight lits but then the insert workbench logo shows onscreen), and booting can still be done if some system files are removed what could be the problem then? |

Probably the partition table has been wiped. If there are no partitions, the computer cannot boot from HDD.
This can happen if you choose "full HDD image" in TSGUI and then try to write an ADF to the disk. There should have been at least two warnings which you have ignored: "image size does not match disk size" and "all data on the disk will be overwritten". If it was an ADF (i.e. a very small image file) which you wrote to the HDD, then you can probably recover your partitions with a program like RDB-Salv or RDBRecov. But if it was a bigger image file (e.g. a HDF with more than 2MB), then at least the data of the first partition is lost. Links: RDB-Salv demo RDB-Salv full RDBRecov |

Hi Thomas,
Reinstalling the hd went well and i integrated my pcmcia drivers on the hd startup partition this time. Some info about Harddiscs for the A600, What is the maximum size Hd an amiga 600 can adress? Is there an application that can transfer a floppydisk based game to run from harddisc? thnx paladium |

maximum hd size depend on ROM version, if you have 37.300 it can probably acess only 40mb drive. 37.350 didnt have any problem with 2gig travelstar here

But you'll need a memory expansion. |

HD capacity it's limited by the file system. If i'm not wrong, there was a patch that allowed to have hd's more larger than the 4gb barrier.
In os 3.9 the filesystem is already patched for more than 4gb. |

Mega Help for the love of God!!
I have an Amiga A600. I have problems. All of a sudden its not working. It powers up still and my tv is recieving a signal, the floppy drive whirls up but its like the lights are on but no one is at home.
I have no boot up screen which should be purple, the floppy light doesnt come on, and if i put a floppy disk in and power up nothing happens. I have opened up the amiga and found there is a hard drive cradle but no hard drive. Should a hard drive be there for the amiga to work. Please help. There is no workbench, no purple screen with the blue disk going into the floppy drive. Its alive but with no brain. |

No, you don't need a hard drive for the computer to work. Does the screen display a certain colour when you switch the Amiga on?
