newicons 4.6
I get the feeling this will be a stupid question, but forgive me im new to the ways of amiga os. If im right in saying that my CWB 3.9 installed is already using newicons i was trying to install 4.6 (not knowing what it was already using) the icons looked a lot nicer and everything installed well but lots of icons remain and seemingly refuse to be overwritten..some are and some are not and its rather annoying. Any idea what im doing wrong?

Have you tried manually to change the icons (the ones that can't be overwritten)?
(Icon Information dialog box, and dragging the new icon over the icon area) If it can't happen again, check if the .info of these files/folders have a write protection flag on. |

OS35 and 39 don't require Newicons to be installed, but if you prefer that icon pack over the Glowicons then there are a few things I would do going from memory.
First, make sure all your files are writable - you may have made them all read only if you copied them over directly using a CD and did not ZIP then UNZIP them using the Amiga ZIP version. Right click->System->Peel Icons->Attributes. OR, if you are booting from a Workbench disk and using shell: Protect DH0:#? +RWED ALL QUIET Running the Attributes script is the better option, as it returns icons to +RWD rather than +RWED, but in practice it doesn't really matter. Then, I'd remove Newicons from the S/User-Startup file (Right click Workbench->Startup->User-Startup) as OS35 and 39 can display Newicons and Glowicons natively. You may also want to backup the dummy Newicon.library that comes with the OS35 and 39 packs, then replace it after installing Newicons, as the installer will replace that also. After installing the Newicons, I would run Compress icons to convert them all to Glowicon format and speed up displaying them (Right click->Workbench->System->Peel Icons->Condense). As for the remaining icons - the Newicons installer will only replace some of the standard icons. The rest you have to replace manually yourself using the method mfilos described. You can also do this by using the built in Icon Updater, Right click->Workbench->System->Icon Install. Just drag the icons in the windows to update (Left the Newicon you want to use, right the old icon you want to replace). Last edited by Bloodwych; 15 June 2011 at 15:31. |

Oh yeah, I forgot it can add deficons too. You won't need that either - I hope it didn't mess anything else up!
