Issues With Chaos Engine AGA (JST and WHDload)

Afternoon all,

I just wondered if anyone else had encountered issues with this.

I've tried the JST version, and while this works most of the time, I've found that it can often lock-up when displaying the 'Get Ready' text at the start of the level. Also, on world 3, the 'Reverse' level has issues where keys/switches only sometimes unlock other sections of the game, making it impossible to complete.

On the WHDload version I simply get a black screen. (Which you can quit from). If I comment-out 'Preload' it gets further, but still dies a death.

I've yet to try the non AGA version of the game.

My specs are: A1200, 68030 @ 50mhz, 32megs fastram.

I'll try and dig out my original AGA floppies and see if I get the same results that the JST installation throws up.

With a Blizzard turbocard (should be fine)? I've completed it on ClassicWB (WB 3.0) and a M-Tec 1230. Have you tried different WHDLoad versions?

I do remember having some problems with a version of CE AGA WHDLoad - think unless you pressed the fire button to continue it would lock up...

I'll check and see which version I have installed later...
I know I had to try a few different versions here and there...

Maybe a Kick 3.1 problem? I remember that older Gods slaves had a problem with KS 3.1 too.

Thanks for all your help fellas.

I'd be interested to know your findings, Peter.

Have managed to dig out my original AGA disks, and have just given those a go.

The disk chugs once and then I'm just faced with a black screen.

I've tried disabling CPU caches and all that jazz, but still nothing.

I am using the WHDLOAD AGA version 1.2 and it seems to be OK Rob, I maybe in the past had probs with the CD32 version thinking about it.

When the Chaos Engine screen appears it states AA version funnily enough - never noticed that before.

I have 3.1 Roms - check my signature for full machine specs.

I haven't changed any of the WHDLOAD game options.

Have you tried the disks without your turbocard too?

Getting the side off the Power Tower is a complete swine, so I try to only remove it if I 'really' need to.

OK, some more details...

The JST version (1.2) loads, but it's the one that either locks up randomly when you get the the 'Get ready' text.

Settings are:

(QUIET)
(NOCACHES)
(HDLOAD)
(DELAY)
(LEAVECACHES)
(QUIET)

The WHDLoad version is the 1.2 version. WHDLoad is 16.1.3648

Settings for the game are:

Slave=ChaosEngineAGA.Slave
PRELOAD

I have 3.1 ROMS installed.

*laughs* What an idiot (me, that is!)

I thought I had downloaded and installed the latest version. It would appear not.

Well, with the latest version installed Chaos Engine AGA now loads under WHDLoad.

I'll let you know if I come up against any problems.

In the meantime I shall hang my head in shame for wasting your time. Thanks for all your help, though. I'm really pleased that the issue now seems to be sorted!

An update - Have just completed world 3 without a single glitch!

Looks like an out of date WHDLoad installation was to blame

Thanks again!
