Question on audio settings: Should I use UAE "sinc" or OpenAL "4-point sync" or both?

Hi,

I've been tinkering a bit with some sound settings in the OpenAL Soft configuration menu.

In FS-UAE I can choose "sinc" for sound interpolation ("uae_sound_interpol = sinc"). But in the OpenAL configuration menu I can also choose "sinc" as resampler quality:
- 4-point sinc
- bandlimited sinc

See attached picture with the "4-point sinc" selected.

Now what setting should I choose: disable the "sinc" filter in UAE and enable 4-point sinc in OpenAL, or maybe the other way around?

Or should I enable both the "sinc" filter in UAE and enabled the 4-point sinc resampler in OpenAL?

I'm a bit confused at which stage these different filters / resamplers get applied, so hopefully someone can shed some light?

Resampling is used when e.g. frequency does not match. So presumably, when FS-UAE already outputs what OpenAL wants (e.g. 48000 Hz or 44100 Hz), the OpenAl resampling setting do not have any effect.

Disabling interpolation in FS-UAE will decrease audio quality since FS-UAE will always perform resampling to get a fixed audio output frequency.

That makes sense, thanks for explaining.
