Making videos - best display/filter settings?

I would like to start making videos for the WHDload games. These will be used in frontends such as GameEX and on the Xbox Xtras frontend.

What I am aiming for is to have the videos show fullscreen with as little black border as possible, but maintain the aspect ratio of how the game should look.

My settings thus far:

Display

Resolution - 640 x 480 (hires, normal)
Line mode - double

Filter

null filter
automatic scaling
keep aspect ratio
vga

Anything I should change from these settings?

Your pics don't show Bigby. Otherwise if the speed isn't too slow while recording those settings sound okay. If you record in window mode you might want to use 640x512 instead of 640x480 though (some lines will be cropped with the doubled setting in PAL games).

The pics should work now

I did try 640 x 512, but the image looked stretched vertically.

If I did capture in 640 x 512, then re-encoded in 640 x 480 would this be a good way to do things?

stick to 640x512 or even 720x568 (to capture overscan area) and dont use any scaling. Can crop the borders out after if needed.

Thanks for the info Mad-Matt, you mean 720 x 576 right?

The more I learn of this video recording, capture, cropping, encoding .etc, the more I feel that what you are saying is the way to go.

Make a really good high res capture and crop and resize.
