UK Amiga User Group?

Hi All

Whilst discussing the lack of a Yorkshire Amiga User Group it crossed my mind that there doesn't appear to be any mention of a National UK Amiga User Group. Is there one? Would there be support for one if it was established? Who is up for it?

Regards

Chris

Now there's a thought!

Great idea!

I'm keen on anything that will prolong the Amigan culture for as long as possible!

Count me in! (I got there first... )

I created one last week;

IfTonyYebdrillshisAmiga3000casewewontbehappy UK Group

Seriously though, I'd be interested if anyone has the urge to set something up... We could have fancy badges and Zetro fake beards and mugs... baby minature Amiga cast from pure gold (no spandau ballet) etc

lol! Don't worry, the A3000 case mod isn't happening. Ive decided to butcher an A1200 which seems to be more acceptable to fellow Amiga users!

I was hoping for more people to post that they would be interested in joining a UK Amiga Group / Club. I would seriously considering setting it up and running (with help of course!).

You know that living in HULL is a legend in the 16-bit retrogaming world.

Phil Graham, aka Grazey of PhF, aka Showaddywaddy of Dbug.

While traditionally an Atari ST user (boo, hiss, hiss!) he's got a few Amiga's.

Google him and take him out for a pint or two.

What? There's no UK Amiga user group? Even Melbourne in Australia has two (which I'd go to if it was closer). I don't think it would be that hard to organise and set one up if there's enough interest. For example if I were to set up an Amiga club here, I'd use the Scout hall (you know the boy Scouts, cubs, Rangers, those guys). They hire the hall out for $50 a day and it's plenty big enough for heaps of people, has toilets, showers, a kitchen... I'd just take a bunch of tables, chairs, extension cords and power boards, and invite all the local Amiga people. Unfortunately all the local Amiga people already live in my house, and it's just the two of us.

I'm sure you guys must have some cheap but good hall nearby you can hire out for the day. Everyone can bring their Amigas or whatever, link them up, play some games, swap some files, eat some pizza. Some guy brings a video projector, and you all start playing multiplayer games on it. Write up a big list of all the latest Amiga news to talk about with the group, I dunno maybe even organise a quiz. And of course each meeting can be like a mini swap-meet where you can palm off all your old crap on other people.

And every time you have a meeting, stick a huge banner up over the front door to let the world know there's an Amiga club going on inside.

A user group would be fantastic... I'm sure there used to be loads in the Amiga's heyday, I remember there being one here in Norfolk - it would be great if that happened again. It would be fun to meet up.

Would people be willing to travel to somewhere central in the country (I'm thinking England in the first instance)? Where is central? Nottingham, Derby? The best part of a user group / club is meeting up.

Hi Cammy

Yes there are clubs within the UK specific to regions. But not a national, well not one I can find.

Ok. Lets get some idea of demand. If you are in the UK and would like to join such a club / group then please add yourself to this Frappr/Platial map:

We could take over the pub, ditch their Sky TV channel and have some Amiga demo's running on the big screen while we talk women, Amiga's and more Amiga's
