Rawread ^^

Hello Toni,

I would like to know if you can raise the amount of data readable
by rawread.

While my drive can run Ziriax and read the long tracks, i can't read all the datas hence the extended adf is not working when loading the level.

thank you ^^

Rawread simply isn't 100% reliable, it just blindly reads and saves the data.

some tracks are 13152 kb, and rawread can image games with 12153 kb.

just pushing the size of data dump.

Hmm.. about 12k is normal length of track. What does rawread exactly say? Longtracks should work fine (except if there are something more than simple longtracks)

the tool can't image tracks with a size superior to 13k which is required on some games.

or they just don't work when imaged.

Why do you think long track imaging won't work? I have confirmed it working ages ago. (max limit is 15k or so but 13k is about the max Amiga floppy controller can read [I mean the density of data in single track gets too big for the controller to handle])

Your disk most likely have something else than simple long tracks. Can't really help without having the disk, sorry.

ADDED: rawread was made for imaging custom formatted save disks and 720k msdos formatted disks, imaging of _some_ copy protected disks is only an "accidental" extra feature.

Wow!! Many thanks for the original, Denis.

Do you have a list which game versions you've dumped so far, for all your extended adf releases?

What are you using the Cyclone for? Is there another piece of software that uses it as well as Cyclone in the X-Copy package?

Back in time i've used Siegfried Copy with a cyclone dongle. I've tested it only on a few games, as example for Jungle strike which worked well. It's still lying here in my old Amiga diskbox.

But you've already dumped Chambers of Shaolin!!

Edit: The WHDLoad install gives me checksum errors. But the image works with a Kickstart 2.x or 3.x in WinUAE.

Maybe, Denis. Leavin' Teramis crashes right before ingame. But all other dumpes seems to be ok. I still have to test your today uploads.

Edit: All games from today work fine.

Yes, the new Chamber of Shaolin dump works awesome, now with a standard A500 config. Many thanks again, Denis.

Hi dlfrsilver,
I don't understand: you managed to copy your original with Cyclone. I suppose you obtained another disk which is a copy of the original.
How did you dump it???
I mean: is there some utilities (which I don't know of) which "stores" the copy in a file (instead of writing on the external disk)?
Have you a list of your dumped originals?

Massimo

Hi Toni!

So isn't there a way to "reliably" raw dump a whole disk?
I mean: reliably=sure that all tracks are dumped well (especially those which are accessed after some hours gaming).

In other words: how can I know if the dump has errors on tracks xx/yy etc. other than playing all the game till the end?

Thanks a lot and compliments for your work!

@Supamax
I don't think there is a way to be sure that a rawread dump has been 100% successful. I've had the experience of having one dump fail to work under WinUAE and another dump from the same disk (made using the same A600 with the same floppy drive) work successfully.

Hi Redwood,
yes, I had the same experience. Ok then, perhaps the solution is the trial&error method = redump until it works
