Alfa Data AlfaRam RA5-512K Battery mod...
I picked up this for an old a500: Alfa Data AlfaRam RA5-512K
the battery looks... ok but there is a small amount of nasty green stuff on a few small solder pads and resistors. The battery itself looks ok with no crsytal crud anywhere. I want to whip that battery off and fit a coin-type slot on there and fit a rechargeable coin battery in. Is it possible? Any pointers before I dive in and wreck it... |

It is possible. Remember to add the diode. Instructions elsewhere in this sub-forum.

the problem with those is they drain quickly. but should be ok if you power on Amiga frequently. (or have ntp sync in startupsequence) |

Not going with the rechargeable idea! Just want to go with the standard coin cell.
Amigakit sell one that might do the job, can anybody confirm it will fit ok?: http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...oducts_id=1093 If not I have some CR2032 Coin Battery Holders floating about somewhere. |

Cool thanx
Turfing into my junk pile of scavenged bits should turn up a cr2032 coin holder and some diodes. Does it matter if the diode is black/ceramic or glass? I may have a problem with the battery size tho! The one sitting there at the moment is quite small and the coin holder will dwarf the area where it sits... |
