LCD Televisions

Does anyone have experience of using a LCD TV with an Amiga? It's a bit of a pipe dream of mine, but with limited desk space and two PC's I've no room for the Amiga

I know that using a TFT monitor with an Amiga isn't exactly straightforward, but shouldn't a LCD telly be plug/play! I just have a worry about what the picture quality would be like, a normal telly smooths the Amiga blockiness in games but I suspect a LCD might not.

By the way the idea is for games and demos (i.e. PAL) not serious apps.

T'was discussed in quite many threads now.
Do a search run on with the Search button, you'll probably find the answer.

I already searched for TFT and LCD. What are you searching for?

Uhmmm, well... More or less themes like: "What's the meaning of life?", "Why are we here?" but there's no topics concerning that on EAB

TFT/LCD Monitors & 2D games 60FPS/ 120HZ
Amiga (any) and LCD Display
Amiga 500/1200 and LCD display
A1200 & Tft

...those are just examples selected by me, i've not read the so sorry i don't know if they're gonna help, but when you'll type LCD in the search box you'll get exactly 63 results - some on this exact topic, and some with just the word LCD in them ... but it might help.

Here is a summary for you concerning LCD and an Amiga (not counting GFX cards):

LCD monitors:

If it is a LCD TV you can use it on your amiga using;
1. composite signal
* Gives a poorer quality
2. RGB Scart (if device supports it)
* would give better quality but depends on the TV's pixel resolution (see quality explained below)

If it is a LCD computer monitor you can use it on your amiga IF;
1. The monitor can sync down to a horizontal frequency of 15khz
2. The amiga has a scandoubler and the monitor can sync down to 30khz horizontal and 50Hz vertical (the latter is very important for PAL modes)

Quality depends on:
1. The resolution the amiga is running in.
2. The pixel resolution of the LCD.

Ofcourse it is also important that these two match up
640x512 cant be devided over a 1024x768 screen. You get interpolated screens at best.
640x512 can be devided over a 1280x1024 screen. You get a clearer screen but overscan will ruin the equation

I beleive this is all there is to it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the info. It is a Telly I was looking into rather than a Monitor, prob the better option for games.

I think it might be a case of taking the Amiga into a shop and getting them to demo a screen. Then go to CostCo and get one cheaper
