LOL, had the first guy asking me if my games are done with Scorpion Engine on another forum.

Guess it's time to leave the Amiga for good soon.

It begs the question, though, if this makes sense when all of that extra effort that's flowing into these productions of ours to get them technically on the very top of what's possible on the platform is not recognized by the general amiga game playing public anymore.

Where's the fun though in building a game with an engine? There isn't any (at least for me anyway) as we'd always be hitting the limits of what it can do knowing the machine can do better.

I see nothing "belittling" in a question asking which language is used to code.
How you get it is a bit unfair for the hard work made by earok, I think... my two cents.

Definitely not what I meant. Read my text again.

Also, your post is Q.E.D.ing my thoughts, I just noticed.

I think the question was no meant to be offending or so, just Scorpion evolved to be a very good engine and the guy asked without any side thoughts.

I am looking forward to Krogharr, although I will never say that name on loud as it could destroy my tongue

"quod erat demonstrandum" : no way .
Keep on the good work with your new game. Like Invyya it has a strong "personality" .

And neither did I want to imply that is isn't or that this comment was made in bad faith.

My thought process is more on the side of if it still makes sense to do all that huge amount of extra work creating custom engine games, if nobody sees or cares about the difference anyway.

What plays into this is also a tendency among a lot of Amiga users that don't really care if something runs on a vanilla machine or if a game needs an 030 CPU or higher, since most remaining people have accelerator boards.

Makes almost no sense not using an engine, I guess. Scorpion will be good enough to create most action game types soon. And if not on a vanilla machine, then on a slightly accelerated one.
I personally don't have any interest in using premade engines though, thus my thoughts about leaving the platform. Maybe not immediately, though.

So: this is definitely not meant as 'whining' or an attack on Erik's great work. Just some thoughts on Amiga game dev and if this situation still suits my hobby needs...

The one who asked the question was me. Just to get the facts straight my exact question was:

"Do you actually use the Scorpion Engine or is everything from scratch?

If not, have you thought about doing something with the Scorpion Engine or at least to see what it can do?
Many games are now built with it and run very well."

There has been no bad intention or any kind of disrespect towards the effort the programmer has put into his project. His reaction is kinda irritating, but i guess thats just the way he is and i'll deal with it.

Nothing but love and respect to amigans. Wish you all a good day.

People are different, thus different languages are used.
The coming of a new engine does not mean that everything else has to be left aside. It's only a new possibility to create games and people having fun banging the hardware will continue to do so as people not knowing how to bang it will be pleased to be able to make games in a "pre-mixed" way

True, but why should someone spend weeks building and optimizing code in asm, when someone else can get near the same results for free?
