The project is entirely based around his personality. Would people (especially content creators) be so quick to support the crowdfunding campaign is it was started by Joe Shmoe?

Of course not. It's all a bit sad really.

Have to agree with Argo here - I would rather see David sort out the two books he has already sold to people than start another project.

And what concerns me is the vague piece about “magazines”. None of the current magazines are involved or are working with the Alliance, to the best of my knowledge. So are they going to do their own and duplicate what is already being covered?

After checking out the roll call of backers, Cantona expresses his disdain...

This is probably not a bad point for someone to start up an Amiga github in the style of an awesome list where anyone can be included in the list for free providing their resource is properly categorized, and call it an Amiga "Open Community Service (OCS)"

I am surprised no one see how this initiative is in the very core tradition of the Amiga.
Too little - too late.
It's even called AGA... lol.

Thumbs up KICKSTARTER: Commodore community - Amiga Global Alliance - David Pleasance

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/amigaglobalalliance/announcing-a-brand-new-aga-for-2023-amiga-global-alliance

Please help out by supporting this important Commodore community Kickstarter!

The alliance will cater to users of all Commodore computers - e.g. Commodore 64, Amiga, VIC-20, PET, C128, etc.

The rewards include a 1-year AGA membership, several Commodore books, documentary films, a C64 game, and music to enjoy.

Thanks!

Come for the Amiga Alliance, stay for the grammar lesson.

I saw DP's presentation about this (his new website, not Italian verbs) at Amiga36 last year and it just felt a bit sad really. "We have the best developers to make the best website!" might have been a selling point before the early 00's web crash but now everything is available for free here/A1K, on Facebook, on Discord...

Or they just needed a few more bullet points on their sales pitch without actually planning anything.

It was actually Amiga37, but I was listening to him there too and my feelings were similar to yours

You might want to disclose your involvement with this scheme given that you've been spamming it in every nook and cranny of the vintage computing community.

I'm a fan of Mr Pleasance's work, but who's asking for this? What need is this filling that isn't already being met? I applaud the initiative, but this seems to be a solution to a problem the community solved themselves over the last 30 years...

Somebody who manages to sell the Amiga 600 in 1992 surely must have a unique talent, especially considering how much effort Commodore intentionally put into making his job so much harder.

It's a cash grab. I'm surprised that names such as David Pleasance, Dave Haynie and others have put their names to it.

Agreed, milking the community with promises and snake oil.

To be honest I'm much more impressed that he managed to sell the idea of (C)AGA to so many people in 2022

Would be nice if they teamed up to buy every Commodore Amiga classic property licenses like the WB or the kickstarts and make them open source or free to the public.
Other than that, I fail to see the point.

anywayaa predseda surprised how? amigabill gets off on being "chummy" with amiga "celebrities" the number one fan boy. everyone else whosing support in this video is clearly just delighted to be approached by a "commodore person"
