they should work but you would only see 4 MB per module as the standard A4000 Configuration only uses 1 MB and 4 MB Modules. Maximum Fast Ram on Board is 16 MB, this can be changed but some Chips require reprogramming.

They might work just fine as 8MB SIMMs if you install them in slots 1&3, giving you a total of 16MB. If you are unlucky they will show up as less.

Thank you for the answers!
My A4000 already has 16MB memory, I was unaware of the the onboard memory limit.

Is there any other more affordable ways of adding more Ram?

Thank you!

Best option for more Fast Ram a 3000/4000 is a processor board with an option for 128Mb Ram.

Some boards are better than others in terms of performance.

Fast Ram via the ZORRO III slots will only be 24Bit at best & slow due to Bandwidth limitations of ZORROIII. Avoid if possible.

There is also a known working 64Mb hack for the A4KD.

What do you mean by this? That the ram will be inside 24 bit address space?
That's not true - Z3 is 32bit with 1.8GB total address space.
It is true that local memory on a cpu slot board will be considerably faster though (even the <=16MB motherboard memory is faster than Z3).

Which CPU card do you have?

The cheapest method is to modify your motherboard (or have an expert modify your motherboard) to increase the limit from 16MB to 64MB.

Yes, and this should work with four 16MB or two 32MB SIMMs.

If you decide to go down modifying your motherboard route you should consider having it recapped at the same time, have the PIO2 modification (if you intend to use the built in IDE) and perhaps even the A4000 ROMY modification which allows for 1MB ROMs.

It really depends if you have a CPU card which can take RAM (Apollo 4040/4060, WarpEngine, Cyberstorm) or intend to buy an accelerator such as the TF4060 or BGF9060 any time soon. (in which case you could leave your motherboard stock)

What do you use your 4000 for? I’m just getting mine repaired, working on the varta rot, and recapping. Wish me luck!
My A4060 card appears perfect, but finding an 060 card with ram onboard would be sweet!
