Hey BSzili,

Any way to get the screen larger when using "hires" (and possibly centred)?

Screenshot below taken on an RTG setup:

Unfortunately not. The game supports a fixed set of UI layouts optimized for various PDA resolutions. 480x320 (Palm Hi-res+ landscape) is the highest one. Here are screenshots of the different resolutions supported:

No problem, just thought I'd ask

Interesting to see the various screenshots on different devices though.

So a "normal" game is equivalent to: Pocket PC shots

A "HiRes" game is equivalent to: Palm Hi-res+ (landscape) shots

They came up with a pretty interesting system, where each UI coordinate and size has its own set of values for each resolution. Ideally I would have made a new layout for 640x480, but then I found that there are hundreds of values to change and they have added various hacks to fix the layouts. So yeah, in the end I went with those two resolutions (PPC and PalmHL), but I fixed some issues and added my own tweaks too, so you might notice some improvements compared to the PDA version

Don't ask me, but if I were you I'd keep my expectations low.

Good to hear it will eventually get released, pity my 020-less ECS doesn't qualify...

Sorry about the 020 requirement, there's no way to get the game to work on 16-bit processors. Originally the game was meant to be AGA only, the 64-color EHB support was added as an afterthought.

It came out pretty decent. I used ham_convert by Sebastian Sieczko to convert a doctored image with the palette to EHB, down-sized it, and exported a lookup table. It was a mostly automated process, that's why the mouse cursor has weird colors. I would have fixed this before release by hand-tuning order of the colors in the palette.

So it's in two different palettes for AGA/RTG and ECS?

Yes, it works similar to ADoom. The game uses 256 color graphics internally, and when part of the screen has to be updated it uses a lookup table to pick the appropriate color from the EHB palette. Here's a visual representation of the lookup table:

Please note that this might not be the actual LUT I ended up using, I experimented with converting different images.

Well, there's always WinUAE Thanks for all the efforts to resurrect/port it anyway

I do hope it comes out. Looks like there's an interesting back story about what's been going on. Hope you can tell it in full sometime. I love the politics of old game licenses. I've been trying to get ownership of the Thalion games copyright for 20 years. The owners bought it in 1995 and have done nothing with it since. Don't want to do anything with it in the future and don't want to talk about selling as it would cost too much in lawyer fees
