The Pistorm was created by Claude Schwarz he does have a twitter page so you can keep track there. I am not sure but he may be part of the Apollo team

I wasn't asking for options available, i was asking about the vampire.

Apologies. in response to the initial post...

"Does anyone have one of these?? How do they compare to real amigas??"...

Agree. This goes for every FPGA and emulator solution.

As we've seen from Toni Wilen's posts, schematics aren't always available and things are always being discovered.

An actual Amiga will be the best possible solution for compatibility.

FPGA and emulators can be considered "good enough".

Sorry i missed this comment. Actually it is not that funny, with the ginormous price increases and everything else going on i will pass up on further explanation. Some things are best left unspoken. This is last time i speak in this thread

Comparing compatibility of two solutions only makes sense when you define a compatibility target. " A1200 is more compatible than the V4 " doesn't mean anything. Compatible with what ? With a stock A1200 or a fully upgraded A4000 with 060@105MHz with RTG ? Amigas are even incompatible between themselves depending on software you want to run on them.

" A1200 is more compatible with an A1200 than the V4 " would in that case be a valid comparison but it wouldn't deserve the FUD purpose of your answer.

Question: if had a vamp a1200 installed in my a1200 could i simply utilise the extra speed, hdmi, ethernet etc and still use the original 1200 chipset minus the enhanced features of the vampire. Or can one switch between the two? Mainly id like speed and to be able to connect to a flatscreen, easily access internet, etc.

The V1200 is basically a CPU accelerator with a RTG graphic card, the chipset used is still the original one from your A1200.

All this religion drives me crazy, they're all great options depending on what you want.

If the Vampire V1200 was in regular production then I'd opt for A1200/Vampire for the best of all world.....still not a bad option if you don't mind the wait.

The V4SA was/is easier to obtain and over the space of a few short months my collection is now:

V4
A500 Checkmate1500+ w/TF536
CD32 w/TF330
Pi4B in old A500 case (stealthPi or Amiga Pi500)
Pi400..holy shit what a device!

Coming soon.....revived and re-capped A4k w/ an ReAMIGA CPU

..not to mention the MorphOS G4 machines brought back to life thanks to Wayfarer

Another FPGA option is the MiSTer, it's as much an Amiga as the Vampire computer is

Performance is not up to the Vampire of course but it's fast enough for most games already and performance will probably improve over time.

Are there any games, demos or apps that will use the Super AGA + 8x audio channels? I would like to see a video of it at the very least.

The vampire is faster, simple as that.

Like I said though, the MiSTer is fast enough for most of what you want out of a classic Amiga and no doubt performance will improve.

Also you can run tons of other retro platforms which is awesome.

Even if both use Cyclone V as FPGA, the implementation of the 68k is completely different. In that case, FPGA has little to nothing to do with performance of the whole.

I'd say if it walks and quacks like a duck, it's a duck for my purposes...

I love the V1200 I have, but that's because it integrates so well in an existing real Amiga.

As for standalone products, the Vampire needs to compete on even grounds with a lot of other stuff that's simply "good enough" for usually a much cheaper price point.

I mean, buy whatever appeals to you.

But if you ask "what is more Amiga", it's a bit silly to say one of these things is more than the other, imo.

This!

I own a V1200 and had a V4. I need the original case and keyboard for the "real" Amiga feeling.

I agree with you Steril707, "what is more Amiga" meaning is quite subjective since everybody has his own idea of what an Amiga is (or isn't).

For me the choice should be guided by this :
- Get an A1200 with you want the retrofeeling of the case and smell of old electronic and you are ready to pay for servicing over time (recapping, replacing PSU, floppy, etc.). Be also aware that expanding it will cost you quite a lot. At the end of the way, if you want to expand it to the maximum, it will cost you more than a V4.
- Get a MiSTer or any minimig derivative if you just want to play WHDLoad games. On MiSTer, you will also be able to use it for other cores (NeoGeo, SNES, etc.) which are imho even way more interesting on that device than the minimig core.
- Get a V4 if you want the fastest and most expanded Amiga experience and be prepared to see things under constant improvements.

In my case, I have them all since I can afford to not have to choose.
