Start-up sounds & pictures?
I'm running AmigaOS3.1 on an A4000/060.
Is there a recommended app for playing a sound and/or showing a picture on start-up? I used to have a sound file played on an A3000 back in the day but don't remember what I used. As for sound files, I remember using some promo piece about the Amiga boasting it power, performance & productivity. Can't remember where it came from. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Jaeson |

Hi...
For years on my Amiga ( A4000/060) I had a Program named Rainboot "from Kimmo Pekkola 'Rainman' & Andreas Falkenhahn" (Airsoft Softwair). Just for Graphicscard, with Sound (8svx and raw), Arexx , Pictures. Klaus |

Back in the days I used SysPic for pictures but any viewer should be useable. DSound, Play16, ... for sound?

Rainboot is very nice, but difficult to make your own booting animated picture.
Play16 runs also very well the music from the s-s. |

Anyone still using Rainboot in 2023 ?
I've installed latest available (v3.2) but it returns black screen when attempting to display/show event stock/demo configs. A500++ with 030@50, 2M Chip, 128M Fast, ZZ9000...everything under v3.2.2.1 |

Not using Rainboot any more but SysPic instead.
Works very well with my 3.2.2.1 configuration and very simple to configure. Have a look. It's available on Aminet |

I'm using playsound as a script+icon in WBStartup which plays on WB then self-terminates.

On one of my WinUAE configurations I use Rainboot with a special graphic "mock" per Windows e Mac! I enclose 2 small videos In the second video an old OS3 of mine booting up with a graphic/sound slideshw, used ppshow for the graphics and Noiseplayer for the sound, the music stops via the function. https://eab.abime.net/zone/AmigaBoot.zip |

Yes, I tested SysPc v4 as a backup solution. It actually performs with OK with non-RTG modes (PAL, HighRes Laced) but sound is limited only to 128kB modules. Solution for that problem could be running DSOUND application (Aminet) which can play IFF/8SVX directly from filesystem (no practical limit). |

I'm trying to set up a single pic on which some machine details would be displayed, alongside some nostalgic tune...alltogether no more than 15 seconds before WB loads up. |

That Rainboot config is total winner! I guess it took you a lot of time to build it from scratch. I might end up testing out Rainboot in Winuae, starting with v3.1 and try to catch a point where it broke. Will report back if any success/findings make a difference. Thnx all! |

Does anyone know an alternative way to "hide" the boot process?
I've been using SysPic to display a plain black image so that I don't have to see when IPrefs changes the resolution/loads a background image and such. But it feels like I'm using an too powerful piece of software to achieve, what seems to be, a simple task. I've found http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/BlackScreen which just opens a simple black screen. But it has some issues. Mainly it doesn't matter where I put it in my startup-sequence the Workbench screen still shows up. And since the screen has no name, I have not found a way to recreate SysPic's ClosePic function which I could put in WBStartup. I tried some other tools which can open screens but they seem to have the same issue with the Workbench screen still showing up. Plus they aren't really easily to configure to show a black screen. |

If Workbench is showing before a desired program when loaded would Loadwb >NIL: hide it? |

Like I said, it's the whole IPrefs stuff I want to hide plus some more.
For me it loads the WORKBENCH SCREEN (not a shell) without the actual workbench then I can see it change the Pointer and ScreenMode before the Workbench gets loaded. Then it takes a bit to load the Background image. And since I'm using WBDock2 and want to make use of its transparency, I need to delay it so that the background image is loaded. It's not about the time, it is fast enough but it is a little bit ugly to see everything build up. |

Try "LoadWB Delay":

Doesn't seem to change anything about the whole process. It might be that the stuff loading, after the WB is loaded, is a tiny bit faster. But I might be wrong, anyway the whole process is still visible. I guess I'll have to stick with a black image and SysPic.

You could try putting before Loadwb in the startup-sequence
Run Syspic file etc [Wait x] Which would start an independent shell sequence before Loadwb. |
