I've seen this A600 for real along with the real fitzsteve (what an honour too) and I said at the time "that machine is not natural". It is a beast, no Amiga (particularly a A600) was designed to play Doom but it DOES!
Great piece of kit, even better to see it in the flesh complete with owner! Keep up the good work. |

& thanks for the kind words. Lovin' the challenge if just how much HP and kit you can cram in an A600 I think once USB goes in that would be it though for this one... Steve. |

If you press the "next" button less than one second you select the next floppy disk. If you press the "next" button more than one or two second you select the file selector disk (autoboot.hfe) jf |

Hey Jeff,
Thanks for the info With using next Disk, does it just choose disks in order on the SD Card? So if I have Monkey Island Disks 1 & 2 inserted, if I want to insert Disk 3 or 4 I just press once or twice? Without screen it would be hard to tell so I think at the end of the day I will find a solution to have the screen and all buttons mounted somewhere. I will move the switches to 'next' though and let you know how I get on What about Disks in other directory's is there a way to access those with one button? What would be great is a simple Workbench app to manage disks, is this possible? Also noticed the new Beta Firmware what stops the drive click, awesome stuff I saw in mfilos' post, I will have to try that since I have to upgrade anyway Cheers! Steve. |

You have just to hear the emulator sound when you pressing the button and you will understand There are no reason at all to use the lcd to play Monkey Island ... Quote:

Hi All!
Just a quick update Screws are in and case is closed, I guess that means for now this project is complete To celebrate here is a little Video: [ Show youtube player ] It starts with a little slide show then I show the OS which is CWB OS3.5, big thanks for mfilos for helping me out with the custom rom I re-kick via the ACA630, boots pretty quick now! I also show some Doom and Shapeshifter for the fans out there Enjoy! @Jeff - I think its sorted now I resoldered a couple of the pins with some decent silver core solder |

Forgot to post this little update here, had some fun messing around trying to overclock the ACA (yes I know I voided my warranty but I don't care )
My buddy mfilos sent me a 40mhz rated 030 CPU so I could have another go, first thing I done was remove the Heatsink (Click thumbnail for Hi Res Image) And some goodies to go on Popped her back in the A600 with nice shiny new CPU: And, hmm - lets try a slightly quicker X-Tal Not bad eh I wouldn't call it a sucess though since it only boots sometimes if you clock over 27.5mhz, mosty just Guru's so I guess thats why Jens only done a handful of the 30mhz units... So I'll be sticking to 27.5mhz which is a 10% boost and 100% reliable. For some reason it wont boot at all with 60mhz X-Tal (30mhz clock) Still - fun times |

Zetr0 done the X-Tal socket so I know its a sound job. I know were pushing the limitations of the Ram timings so that probably what it is, but I tried another CPU to rule that out. Steve. PS - Actually one thing I didn't try is without ACATune, maybe one of my ACA options is causing the crash on faster speeds? |

Hey Guys!
Just a small update to this pretty much finished project Maybe I'll add USB one day but for now, its complete! I had Kipper2k's CF adapter here for a while now and decided to use it in this project because this case already has two holes and some broken clips so I don't mind filing out the PCMCIA slot. Its not quite as straight as I would have liked but simetimes you have to stop before you make things worse First cut wasn't big enough, so had to chop some more off Another quick look at the inside, notice my 1.3/3.1 dual Rom is missing, its gone a bit tits up and stuck on 1.3, so need to fix that as one of the cables came away from the switch... Should be a simple solder job. For now I've fitted a 3.1 Rom only I also made a slight slot for the SD card because with the HxC screwed down the SD Card was being pushed up and not making good contact. Thats it for now Last edited by fitzsteve; 10 May 2011 at 21:28. Reason: typo |
