Fascinating but the truth is out. The Feather Brick insides are too big to go inside the A500 and so I will have to look elsewhere.

I swear you could get that inside an A500 with a bit of choppy choppy.

Any ideas on what those falt metal things are? The ones that add to the height.

They are just heat sinks. Probably get very hot. (Like melt skin type hot)

This is the (25W) brick that came with my A1200.

Unfortunately it doesn't work anymore, and you can see the result when I opened the brick to check the fuse.

Presumably there IS a fuse in that lump of resin somewhere...

I am thinking it is too tall.

I am now looking into using a laptop PSU (inside).

The plan is just a case-hack in the Atari ST vein. I was always jealous that the ST didnt have that horrible brick to lump around. Now with Switch mode PSU's so much better than they were back then I thought that I may be able to get one inside the A500 case.

You want to put PSU inside A500 ?... hmmmm where ? I guess A600 mb with PSU inside A500 case is possible, but A500 mb is very big..

WOW, caught this thread just in time!!!

I have been pondering a similar question for some time and well this is what i found

picoPSU (if you froogle) you will get absolutlely loads

http://linitx.com/product_info.php?products_id=916

the size of these PSU's (upto 120watt) is VERY small, the same size of an ATX plug (seriously that small) a couple of CF cars are bigger

there is a small catch.... these units use a laptop type powersupply brick... this essentailly phases it to a 12vDC arround 6amps... but saves SO much room ....

That is DC-DC so you need an external AC-DC power adapter

I'm very interested in how you get on with this. My A500+ came with the heavy PSU. Not only is it big and ugly, it's also yellowed much worse that the A500+, perhaps due to its own heat.
