Games similar to "Awesome"? (or non-linear, non strategy games in general)
Are there any games similar to Awesome by Psygnosis on the Amiga? Games where you have a mix of genres and especially action stages and things like trading as well as a certain "non-linearity" in between?

Feel free to do so - and then please come back here to think of some more Yeah I know Technocop from back in the day but unfortunately it's not exactly non-linear if I remember correctly.

Elite
The ultimate mix for me was Elite (as long as you accept the 3D-fights as "action")

Yes Elite II (Frontier) would be the perfect mix of trading and stuff if you could call the space battles "action". Unfortunately they had to use Newton to make it more realistic - which is great, it's just that this exchanged combat fun with "interesting physics" fun. And if it's one of those days where you just want to atomize a few space pirates, you are forced to do it "in style" (the very big scientist in me say so as well) - but not exactly in the most frantically fun way. In that case even "Awesome" had more thrills, it was just so unfair and badly designed in places.
Come on - there has to be another game where this all fits |

Yes, Pirates! is nice, I still play the recent remake from time to time. Still not really that much action - aside from really mini mini-games. It would be far cooler if there was a section where you had real control over your character/ship etc. like the different shmup levels in "Awesome".

Space Rogue is a bit like Elite with its space travel, combat and trading but it also has top-down RPG/adventure sections and an arcade game-with-a-game. There's a general plot but it also features non-linear sub-plots too.

Nice one! But do you know what really freaks me out about this game everytime I try it? The absolutely awful sound and absent music. Compared to this, Frontier is pure perfection. Now don't say I'm just too picky or something - it's just so extremely flawed because of this (I just love the stylish simple graphics for example) I just can't bear it. Still a very good suggestion
