A600 power LED dead!

Hi,

I made a very stupid thing today with my A600 .
I wanted to try a Logitech serial mouse with it (I thought it could be compatible, and didn't investigate on the Web before trying), so I:
- unplugged the Amiga mouse (with the A600 ON)
- plugged it again, and it worked (so I thought "hey, mouse hot-swapping works!")
- unplugged it
- plugged the Logitech mouse in, and as soon as I did it... *poof*, the Power LED died instantly.

I fear I damaged the mainboard... what can I dooooooo?

Edit: the other LEDs work, and the keyboard also works.

Probably you burn the resistor who acts like a fuse in the mouse port. If not, you burn Paula, so no more floppy, too.

A600's Paula is SMD (like 1200/4000/4000T), check with people who is able to do a rework on the board.

Power LED is controlled by CIA-A (and firebutton/left mousebutton goes to CIA-A) but I don't see how it can get damaged without feeding it something like +12 which isn't available in joystick port.

CIA/Paula/Denise pins connected to mouse port are normal IO-pins, direct connection to either ground or +5v won't cause any damage.

(do you mean the Amiga works except power led? Who cares about the led? )

Where is it located exactly?

to the tower with you young sir. Unplugging mice/joysticks whilst Amiga is on is a criminal offence. In Italy you are fed to the sharks with tomato in mouth

eBay is your friend, or Amigakit may be able to source you a new LED PCB et al.

You are joking . I don't think that plugging/unplugging a normal Amiga mouse/joystick can cause damages... am I right?

Maybe it's only the LED (burnt)?
It seems impossible to me... Isn't a LED much more robust than other components?

WAIT WAIT WAIT !!!!

It turned out to be a stupid problem: one of the keyboard's 4 cables (the red one) was nearly detached/cut. I touched it now and it came away...!

I'll solder it back and all will be probably well.

Sorry if I bothered you all with this. Sometimes the solution is under our eyes, and much more simple than we think

EDIT: the strange thing is that the only side-effect of the detached red cable is the Power LED death...

It may just a be a co-incidence it going. Hard to say really with the components in the A600 being over 15 years old now. I've never known anyone to damage an Amiga whilst unplugging mice etc with it being on but there's always a chance it could cause something to go pop. C= always put a warning label on to that effect.

The A600 keyboard connector has four cable: green, orange, red and black.

Which is the function (which data does it convey) of the red cable?

No "data", red cable on the little led board is only to feed the power led with positive voltage, green is for HD, orange to floppy, black is ground.

Ok, then all is clear . The "poor" power LED cannot receive any current

I'm glad this worked out and I hope you learned your lesson. You got lucky. You should avoid pushing your luck again lest things not work out so well.
