Identifying 4000 motherboard revision
Well, I picked up my 4000 "lucky dip" that I won on ebay.
. I say lucky dip as it could have turned out to be a non-working 030... Turns out to be a fully working 4000/40 with 18MB RAM, rev 3.1 68040 card and a 120MB hard disk full of titling stuff. Nice ![]() Quick internal inspection reveals that it's got: - socketed buster, rev 11 - barrel type battery that's leaked majestically: surgery scheduled for tonight! - white simm sockets with metal catches Would this be a rev C motherboard? I'm guessing that no-one in their right mind would have changed the simm sockets and left the battery alone! Pics to follow. |

if it is revC, then it will have an onboard 030...

I thought it was a rev d variant that had that (just going on what I've read on BBOAH, etc), plus it would have had 4 simm sockets and a coin type battery if it's got an onboard 030?
Quote:
My other 4000 is definitely rev.b: soldered buster, normal (crap) black plastic SIMM sockets, and it isn't one of those. I'll check the motherboard for a revision number / letter - that'd probably help ![]() If it is a rev c, I'll take pics and submit it to the various places on t'interweb |

B's are the most common. I've got one of those.
I've also got a D, they dont have barrel batteries, they have CR2032 coin type ![]() Never seen a C. I bet money it's a Rev B. Last edited by alexh; 14 February 2008 at 12:57. |

Also some pictures on the internet report they are a different revision (text on the page) than what is printed on the silkscreen.. Just to add to the confusion.

Hence my confusion
![]() I've got a feeling it'll turn out to be a B with changed SIMM sockets, but that doesn't explain why someone didn't remove the battery. Or perhaps it was replaced? I dunno. What's annoying me is I'm at work so can't play with my new toy. Hence the need to talk about it. ![]() |

aha, sounds horribly like rev b then!
I was assuming that all rev bs would be the same as the (other) one I have, and the ones pictured on BBoAH. Damn ![]() Last edited by chiark; 14 February 2008 at 13:17. |

I dont think different versions are worth more or less than others as long as it has a Rev 11 buster.
I paid £150 last year for my A4000-CR (Rev D) which I thought was a bargain at the time, thinking it was rare etc. It's now clear (from watching the prices on ebay) that any unboxed, unexpanded A4k (18Mbyte 030) goes for about the same amount. |

Cool
![]() ![]() My other machine has a rev 9 (IIRC) buster soldered to the mobo, which is a pain seeing as I haven't yet got any SMT tools... Pics later. |

It's a Rev B. White simm slots (plastic, not metal clips unfortunately - my memory is an optimist), socketed buster - I've taken some photos and will post 'em later.
