Desert Strike control on WHDLOAD
I was playing Desert Strike WHDLoad with a CD32 Controller on my A1200
I noticed that the yellow button does not bring up the map screen like it does in Jungle Strike WHDLoad? is this a bug? You can't play the game without accessing the map screen. |

Hallo I tried this today and yes the yellow button does not show the map like jungle strike.
Not good to play if you have no keyboard or amiga is near the tv. I will try the JST version to see if that works. |

Thanks for the replies.
mikey2002kent: What solderpcb said I've been playing my amiga in the living room under the tv, So I'm not near the keyboard. I also looked at the JST version and i can confirm the yellow button does not work. Maybe someone can have a look at the desertsrikehd.asm that is in the desert strike whdload archive to check if it is there or not? |

I'd have a look if I could. I'd end up ruining the code.
But to answer your question Desert Strike never supported the CD32 controller so the yellow button that is used for the map in Jungle Strike wouldn't work here. I'm sure I requested a similar feature many many years ago, but I think JOTD is super busy these days and has released the source so someone else can make that improvement. I'm sure someone like Psygore can probably add such functionality with his eyes closed. That would be your best option. |

I thought this was going to be a simple task, but it turns out it was quite the pain. Lots of patching to get it working, mainly because of how the game was coded. I have not tested this on real hardware yet, but It seems to work fine on WinUAE.
Patched -Main Menu -Abort Game Menu -Map Screen -Main Game -Transition Screen after main menu Custom4=1 to enable - JOTD already included Custom4 and Custom5, but was not making use of them, so I used it. Red - Fire Yellow - Map screen Play - Pause Blue - Weapon select Play+Forward+Reverse - Quit Green+Forward+Reverse - Abort Game Please test it out and let me know of any issues. |

Abbadon - would it be possible to do a similar thing for Pinball Dreams whdload? It is a favorite game for many many people and one can't play it without sitting next to keyboard (I know it is not really on-topic here, sorry for that).

I could try to include joypad mapping in SlamTilt, I would like to patch the OS functions too.

But you can't map the d-pad = left for the left paddle/flipper in Slam Tilt. A proper CD32 pad control patch would be better. Just like Pinball Illusions/Pinball Fantasies CD32.

I just tried Desert Strike on my A600 and your CD32 joypad patch works as intended, Good Job.
Regarding Slam Tilt this has been discussed many times before, There is even a CD32 patch on aminet which is almost complete http://de3.aminet.net/game/patch/nts_slamtiltcd.readme The only problem is the menu isn't patched. There was also progress being made here too http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...ll+dreams+cd32 It would be nice to see someone take that patch and finish it. Non WHDLoad and WHDLoad. |
