different cracks different disks?

Hi chaps,
I have asked something similar before and know that there are different cracks of the same games, but what does it mean when there is two versions of the same disk with an a thus : [a] ?
for instance supercars 2 (1991) (gremlin) [cr_skr] = cracked skidrow i presume? (disk 1 of 4) [a]? or even [a2]?
I have also seen them cracked by the same people but with 'nomad' added to it. what does that mean?
just wondering how many i should download for supercars 2 - also i think there is an AGA version?
Cheers
PZ

No such thing, check HOL if unsure about what different chipset versions exist

[a] Alternate version
It means that it's the same combination of game, cracker and maybe trainer, but disks CRC value is different. That can mean several things like that a different hiscore table is saved to disk or that someone changed some files. If the non [a] disk doesn't work it's always worth to check the other ones

[a] stands for alternate

An alternate version of the software with small differences like the readme files, etc.
The variants are:
[a] – Alternate version
[a Descriptor] – Alternate (including reason)
Some examples of descriptors:
highscore = Only a highscore table entry is different from a non [a] image
readme = Only a readme file is different from a non [a] image

Now you're gonna wish you never asked

yay cheers guys that really explains a lot now. Its a useful archiving system - as a historian i can appreciate that, and the amount of collective work that has/is gone/going into these sorts of archives. Thank god somebody cares
one more question what does [overdumped] mean. I spent ages trying to get my amiga emu working on my Gp2x until i got an 'overdumped' version of a kickrom
cheers
Pz

This means that it's not the correct size, most probably parts are duplicated somehow or maybe data filed with FFFFFFs.

This mean "fixed" to work on "AGA" Amiga's i.e. 680x0 CPUs and is done by "nomad".

f_aga - fixed for AGA machines, with this fix you can run it on A1200 but game is the same as on A500 (no enhanced graphics)

You want the .PDF courtesy of PandMonum, tells you all about TNC/TOSEC Naming Convention http://panda.pt-server.com/amiga/tnc.pdf

Edit: btw. This is still WIP (work in Progress) so it's not 100% accurate but PandMonium reckons it's at least 99.9% accurate

Ot

You should edit that title before somebody silly (I must admit I was really tempted) start posting different pictures of dragons or draculas, the same way it was done with carps

Personally I always thought Dracula was a bit of a effet snob. All aristocratic and full of himself, the upper-class undead as it were. i find zombies much more appealing; the working class of the undead, the Everyman of the underworld, the proletariat of the horror world. I suppose Dracula does have a bevy of sexy lady vampire friends - i mean look what happens to Keanu 'surfer dude' Reeves in dracs castle; what a way to go, vampire sex death. sex death with zombies just doesn't work - well in a niche market maybe?
