Dogfight by Microprose
I've installed this on my A500 hard drive. Whenever I run the game from Workbench, I run into an odd problem.
First, the mouse isn't quite as responsive as it is when I boot the game from floppy. Second, after I click on the title screen, click on the British flag, press RETURN at the manual protection check, and then click on Duel Mode, when I try to click on WW2, I have to double click and then the screen starts strobing. Black turns to white and back to black over and over in a strobe and it never stops. I can continue past the Duel Mode menu and choose my plane and starting position, but the strobing continues. I have tried both the TRSI and PDX cracks, both exhibit this problem, so I doubt if it's a bad crack. I've tried it in both NTSC and PAL, no change. The game was written in 1993, so Kickstart 2.0 or 3.1 shouldn't be an issue. The game does NOT exhibit these problems if I run it from disk, but the thing has a HD install program, so I'm assuming it was meant to work from HD. Any ideas what could be causing this? |

have you wonder if the game needs more ram or another kickstart to run?

My A500 has 512KB Chip RAM and 8.5MB of FastRAM.
The game runs from floppy disk under KS3.1 with no strobing, I was actually in and played the game for a bit. I suppose it could be a RAM issue, like it needs 1MB Chip when run from hard disk, but not if run from floppy. |

have you tried running it from HD with no startup-sequence? If that works then maybe you will still be able to run it from WB by running the add44k program first.

I have not gotten back to test this game yet, but will try to run it from HD without a startup-sequence...I'll need to find the add44k program as well.
Is it possible to write IPF's with standard Amiga drives? How would I get my hands on the IPF's? |

I don't see an add44k program on Aminet, but I do see an add36k.

Also remember to deactivate all external hardware which might use additional RAM (i.e. disk drives).
