S-L-O-W Picasso96 uaegfx on WinUAE?

I've pulled my old A2500 drives and made RDF images that work fine with WinUAE. However, it would be nice to use uaegfx mode instead to make the emulation faster.

Cloanto Amiga Forever seemed to get their configuration right as the Picasso96 uaegfx modes work great. However, after installing Picasso96 on my RDF images (and getting the right rtg.library), I can switch to a uaegfx mode (800x600x8 for example), but the performance is unbelievably slow. I couldn't bear running P96Test, but you can practically watch each pixel draw when windows/icons/whatever are rendering on the screen.

I've tried having the same uaegfx tooltypes set as on the Cloanto example and that doesn't fix it.

Any thoughts?

In WinUAE config go to Chipset page, untick Cycle Exact, then go to CPU page, select 68020, untick 24-bit addressing and More Compatible, enable JIT and select Fastest possible but maintain chipset timing.

In prefs/Screenmode select 800x600x32 and move depth slider to maximum.

It can also be something incompatible in your original AmigaOS installation, for example some hardware specific utilities or replacement libraries etc..

Found it. PointerX was at fault. Don't know what version it was and don't know what I had installed it for (oh... 18 years ago?). But once I removed it from user-startup, things started running great!
