Anyone here use the Gotek?
Ive been looking at buying one but the prices range from $30 to $60!
They look the same? Is their a particular one that works on an Amiga 2000?

just make sure it has Flashfloppy installed as its firmware and of course the right mount unless you going for the generic unit.

Thanks for the quick reply.
So probably the cheaper ones leave it up to you to install FlashFloppy or whatever and the more expensive ones do that for you?

You can get them for around 20$ shipped from China.
A USB-to-serial adapter (for programming) will cost an extra 1-2$.

If you want to use it a lot, and have many games on your pendrive, I advise getting one with LED display and a dial knob. The cheaper ones only have buttons and simple numeric display and are a pain to use.

Mine came from AliExpress (China) about a year ago. £18.64 incl shipping (~$25). I already had a small OLED display.

I made a USB A to USB A cable to install FlashFloppy. You chop 2 USB cables and twist the wires. Only needs to be done once. There's a guide on the webpage.

This is in my A4000. Fits in a drive bay fine. I assume an A2000 will be similar.

Depending on where you are in the world, you can buy direct from Keir (the man behind flashfloppy) at his eBay shop: https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/zeroflux

I use one and its fantastic. As far as the Amiga is concerned, its a real floppy drive so accuracy should be like 99.999%. At least I havent run into any problems.
I did buy one that came with amiga specific software already set up but it was still pretty cheap.

Do note if you want to use it in a wedge case, there are some versions that are made specifically to fit there. The normal casing will be too big.

The LED and push buttons are okay, but I don't keep tons of images on mine.

I read somewhere that because of chip shortage the latest Goteks use some other chip inside and might need some different steps to maintain compatibility. Best check FF / HxC sites for the latest info.

I didn't know that. His drives include a OLED & rotary encoder. £38 is a good price.

That’s still double the price of buying a standard item in my opinion

"MCU runs at 288MHz and has 384kB SRAM. reliable operation, extensive image caching, and will allow for a wider range of firmware features in future. The enhanced firmware which runs on this MCU is called FlashFloppy PLUS"
