Street Fighter 1 - Scorpion Engine
So I really hated the conversion of Street Fighter on the Amiga. I think the original could have been much better even the C64 version had the special moves. I can not emphasise enough how bad the original was on the Amiga just play it and see.
I am attempting to remake Street Fighter 1 for the a500 with 512kb of ram. I wanted to target the 1mb model but I am trying to better the original release for Amiga and that game runs on a 512kb Amiga that might be why it is so bad. I have no experience with Amiga coding so this could take a while. |

There was that SF2 tech demo already, also made in scorpion, and it looked quite potent.

I have seen that video and I would not call it a tech demo. Street Fighter 2 is much more complicated then what you see in that video. On the surface it does look like street fighter 2 cosmetically but that is about it.
I chose not to even attempt SF2 as it is way to complicated and I don't think I could do a better conversion then Super Street Fighter 2 on the a500. But I could make the worst port of Street Fighter 1 and it would be better then this trash : [ Show youtube player ] |

At the time we were saying "Those are made in C" - yup, C compilers were THAT bad
But this is Tiertex, they had the "talent" of screwing it up even if it was made in Assembler |

Scorpion engine games require 1MB, it's not currently possible to do a 512K game.

Not sure where you got that information. Scorpion Engine is not optimized for memory saving but if you game is slim enough it will fit. I was advised by the developer not to target 512kb but hey this is just for fun.

I had never seen an arcade Street Fighter back in the day, but I remember playing this on the Amiga and thinking "damn, this is sooo bad and Street Fighter is a shit game".
It was almost unbelievable when the second game became such a hyped phenomenon. |

Good thinking: choose a simpler arcade game remake it perfectly.
Not as easy as it seems but still good thinking. |

To be honest, the original streetfighter was utter trash in the arcade to. Remember a big punch circle you had to smash to punch in-game, was hard as hell! Trying to emulate that gimmick through a computer/console never worked.
It is remarkable that Capcom tuned SF2 into a worldwide phenomenon after that effort. Not a chance you could get an arcade perfect copy of SF running in 512k in Scorpion currently, but good luck trying. It is often said that make the best game you can without restraint and then slim it down and optimise like mad when done. |

there will be nothing arcade perfect about this port it will be a heavily cut down version. I am just trying to make something better then the amiga port so I have set the bar very low lol.

So, it's about remaking a game that wasn't great to start with, in a heavily cut down way. Hmph. Tbh I'd much rather see anything else made in Scorpion than that, even if it was a pong-level game. But at least it'd be something new.

I'm personally quite excited about this (more so since I've read you're also an OpenBOR dev) |

Yeah I feel like i can make anything 2d in openbor but scorpion engine is much more limited but im getting used to it. Only been a week so hopefully I get better over time.
I did not really start this project to please anyone but myself just sharing my progress here. But it is nice to know at least one other person would like to see this game made. Thanks for the support @Tsak. |
