Andy Warhol Amiga disks preserved

Ignore the arty-farty bullshit about "reverse engineering", "retrocomputer forensics" and all that junk, the fact still remains that an interesting part of Amiga history has been preserved in one way or another:

http://studioforcreativeinquiry.org/...rhol-discovery

I for one would love to see these works.

I actually quite like them. Just wish i could see them all.

Also wish they would have not taken credit for any of the "science" behind restoring these. They're pretty clearly using a Kryoflux in the picture shown. I bet they got paid handsomely for dumping disks and running them in an emulator

Like, what is this fucking quote? "A painstaking three-year project was required to recover the images which were saved in an obscure data format.
And "an obscure format that modern Amiga emulators could not read."?? Bullshit! In the link itself it is clearly shown that the images are loaded in GraphiCraft on an emulator :@

Then on their paper they say they just had to change kickstart versions for GraphicArt to run, so talking a load of bullshit is what this article is doing.

You know americans. They always have to hype everything up. It must sound like millions of workhours or dollars have to be used even if it was actually just a little fart that came out.
Its their way of presenting things.
But at least they preserved something preservable so i'm happy all the nice products available for retrocomputing were used for something nice.

Can I be honest and say that I've always found Warhol's art to be butt ugly?

As for their 'retrocomputer forensics', they should walk a day in StingRay's (or any other of the WHDLoad boys) shoes.

Putty Squad was a million times more important.

It has nothing to do with these guys being americans, rather than them trying to justify the probably hefty grant they got to do this simple job. The paper is more honest than all the media hype to be fair. But this kind of discriminatory, generalizing talk about american people is always ridiculously unfair.

Alkis, sorry, but saying Putty Squad being more important than this is a very uncultured thing to say. I am assuming you don't care much for visual arts, or perhaps any other type of art.
Regardless of personal considerations about Warhol's work (everybody can like or dislike art as much as they want), his importance and that of any history related to him and specially this one related to Amiga is undeniable and above the late release of any Amiga game (specially one which isn't seminal).

Well.. I could argue that Putty Squad is also art. But you are right, of course. My comment was more tongue-in-cheek than serious though.

I do care a lot about art, I am not a connoisseur but I do go to museums whenever I visit a city for the first time. I am just not a fan of Warhol's art.

Just to clarify I commented on it because you said Putty Squad was a million times more important. Even if you hate Warhol, his significance is historically very relevant for all humanity, Putty Squad, not so much :P
As the arts lover that you are, I am sure you can appreciate that bit, regardless of your particular opinion on his work.

(And I would also agree that a video game can be a work of art. Actually, the MoMA has started to collect them and display them)

They handed the job to me, it only took 3 days ! My goodness, what the fuck about this crap : an obscure format that modern amiga emulators could not read. Bullshit bis !

and they used a kryoflux to.... dump "copied" disks, when they could have done it with an A1200..... That's really killing a mosquito with a nuclear bomb as we say here.

They did use XCopy at first. If you read the paper, the process is explained in more detail and deprived of SOME of the media hype someone obviously added to make it look better on newspapers. Not even the official press release by the Warhol Foundation makes such claims: http://www.warhol.org/uploadedFiles/...se_4-24-14.pdf

So I assume this is classic uninformed, journalistic hyperbole.

I don't know what art is because even people vomiting colored milk onto paper are allowed to call it art, or the random tunes of a cat "playing" on a piano.

The word has lost most of its meaning to me :/

1092 days for them to work out it wasn't a PC formatted 720k floppy, 70hrs figuring out what the hell the extension IFF was, the remaining 2hrs were spent handing it to someone who knew what they were doing, to extract the contents and hand it back to them on a memory stick/DVD in a format they understood.

The rest is history.

btw, I'm never eating Campbells Meat Balls again.

It's a press release from a media relations person -- and they're the same everywhere.

Lost Andy Warhol artworks discovered on Amiga floppies from the '80s

What can I say... it's just awesome. It's more pictures like the one created by Andy on the Amiga launch event.

http://studioforcreativeinquiry.org/...rhol-discovery

http://studioforcreativeinquiry.org/...report_v10.pdf

If you follow the links, you will find a download for the pictures as well:

http://www.warhol.org/uploadedFiles/...ess_Images.zip

This is all very exciting especially for us here at SPS, because all the data extraction was done with KryoFlux. Guess what... we're just proud because we never thought that an invention we made would be part of such an important historic event.
