Player Manager File Error

Tried various versions but I cannot get past the 'insert formatted disk' message - when I enter my disk I am presented with 'File Error'

I have created a a blank .adf via WinUAE and I have formatted a disk in Workbench, all to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hello there Fiery Phoenix,

You could try the "Player Manager (1990)(Anco)[save disk].zip" from TOSEC.

Look on the EAB File Server under "Commodore_Amiga\TOSEC [2016-01-03]\Commodore Amiga - Games - Save Disks (TOSEC-v2012-12-20_CM)"

To access the EAB File Server see this thread: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=43633

Cheers - nothing happens when I select TOSEC [2016-01-03] - won't load up.

Will give it a go tomorrow evening - may have more luck

Well that's very odd indeed

I've been using the "EAB File Server" today to download different .ADFs and all is working fine

Anyway, I've now downloaded this save disk and put into The Zone! for you

I'm sure you already know how to but just in case, see here to gain access: http://eab.abime.net/faq.php?faq=vb_...ezone_faq_item

Cheers for that - still getting the File Error message

Must be my WinUAE settings I guess if nobody else is?

I let the game do the pre-game data build up on warp mode and also tried it without - still I get the same message

Guess I could give this game a try and see how I get on

Football games are not my favourite; football management games even more so...

Ok, given this a bash. Used the same disk as GameBase Amiga i.e: "Player Manager (1990)(Anco)[cr OCL].adf". Selected a "A500 - 1.3 ROM, ECS Agnus, 512KB Chip + 512KB Slow RAM" configuration.

Started the game, selected "New Game" and let the players / teams / statistics get created. Once finished selected "Done" --> "Save" and saw the following screen:

Inserted "Player Manager (1990)(Anco)[save disk].adf" into "DF0:", selected "Ok", type in a name e.g. "damien" + "Damien2" and clicked "Ok":

If I now select "Load" I can see my saves:

Restarted the game, selected "Continue Game", insert "Player Manager (1990)(Anco)[save disk].adf" into "DF0:" and selected "Ok". I now see a totally different list of save games:

Very strange indeed

I haven't played around with different disks / configurations but...

A quick help suggestion; use "Save States" instead with WinUAE.

It seems that the "Load Game" go to read in a different location on disk!

Will give it a go when I get in from work tonight. I prefer save states, just with Player manager it forces you to input a formatted disk before you get into the game. That's where I was getting the file error every time.

As long as I can get into the game I should be fine, just that damn message

I tried it again

If you press save after the players get created - this is just to save any team names you have amended. You can select Done to start the game - both options ask for a formatted disk to be inserted

I managed to get a bit further using the settings above (rather than the settings Gamebase applies)

I inset said save disk and I can see an already saved game notes as LigaName (same as above) but it does state 'Disk full' when you attempt to save under a new name - you cannot delete the LigaName entry either

The screen goes back to 'The League' screen and if I select save again, my save game does appear - but If I select done - I get File Error again

Defo something strange with this

I have this game on an old floppy (cracked version) and a disk with it labelled "data disk". I can oly assume it is a save disk which I created abour 25 years ago! Unfortunately my main game disk has given up the ghost and doesnt seem to load so I can't test it on my real amiga. What I can do is make an ADF of my data disk though and upload it here if you like for testing?

EDIT: Ok I managed to get the game working on my A1200 with relokick and can confirm that the data disk works and loaded my old "Paul Utd" game save fine. I have made an adf and attached it to this post. Please try it and see if you can save your old files successfully or not.

Nice one Superman; I tried creating a standard 880KB disk also and using but didn't work when saving / loading...

Analysed the TOSEC "Save Disk" and it's "NDOS" so no idea how it was created (there's no option in the game to format / create this).

Anyway; hope your "data disk" works

Cheers for the disk

Tried again - come to the edit team bit - select save, disk accepts, nothing held there already unlike the other one.

As soon as I enter a file name it states' Disk Full' - it goes back to the team screen and at the bottom right where you select Done - it has file error written over it.

I can still select Done, to progress to the game, but it again asks for a formatted disk and I then get the File Error message again!

Rookie error and I have made plenty in the past, but it is defo unticked.

I suppose as soon as I can get into the game with my own name, that should be it....it's just getting past that damn done screen!

Cheers - tried it exactly the same thing.

Tried it both on warp speed loading and normal speed, plus using DamienD's settings which are slightly different to Gamebase (used that as well)

Defo a strange one, game loads fine, builds up the teams, but as soon as Done is selected and the blank disk loaded - File Error appears

Go with Belgarath's "GameBase Amiga" settings

...mine was a quick test (using the same settings that I use for 85% of the A500 games in my WinUAE collection). "ECS_Agnus" is probably not needed; "OCS" will suffice.

I used the IPF release, works first time every time.

WinUAE Default A500 512/512 config.

Try WHDLoad release 1.0/1.1

edit: Tried with Gamebase version of Player manager and the save disk also works first time. I've made a couple of saves on this disk.
Gamebase

Has to be something with my settings then. I have tried the disk you sent Arnie and if I select save just after the teams have generated I can see the name of the savegame file - gamebase.

If I select save and enter my own name - it does state Disk Full - but it does appear to accept it as when I then select Load, these saved games appear. However if you select Continue Game from the start screen as soon as the game loads - these saves are no longer there and I can just see gamebase & gbw3 files to load from (which load fine and go straight to the game)

If I start a brand new game, let it create the players, enter my name, year, team name, etc and then press Done to start the game - File Error everytime. Tried a variety of save disks, may have to knock this on the head - just that feeling when you get the bit between your teeth and you are desperate for it to work!

Grrr

Gamebase GEMUS states:

kickstart_rom=v1.2
nr_floppies=1
floppy0type=0
floppy1type=-1
floppy2type=-1
floppy3type=-1
immediate_blits=false
ntsc=false
chipset=OCS
collision_level=playfields
fastmem_size=0
bogomem_size=2
chipmem_size=1
cpu_speed=real
cpu_type=68000
cpu_compatible=false
cpu_cycle_exact=false
blitter_cycle_exact=false
statefile=savestates\Player Manager.uss
