I'm guessing because it sounds nice when spoken out loud.

Is there any way to stop the Freeware "nag" window from appearing when you launch OctaMED Soundstudio?

I'd guess it was simply because of the alliteration. The double 'S' just sounds catchier and more memorable from a marketing point of view.

How do I get the Print Screen key to work in WinUAE for exiting some WHDload games?

The "PrintScreen" Key is another name for the Numpad Multiply Key on the Miggy. Take a look at WinUae options - Input. Your PC Numpad Multiply should be mapped to that key. Works for me.

Note also that
- IIRC you need a 68010+ cpu for the quitkey to work
- you can change the quitkey to your liking via the Tooltypes of the Whdload icon
for example "Quitkey = $59" would change it to "F10".

Hope that helps.

Are there any sound cards (zorro or clockport) available to buy anymore or is there much point in having a sound card in your Amiga?

No AHI cards available new as far as I understood.

It is sort of useful, but sort of not. Do you need 16bit 44kHz or can you get by with less?

Just wondering if there's any real benefit to having one at all? Do games only like Quake take advantage of it?

All software has to be written specifically to be either aware of AHI (the retargettable audio library) or the specific sound card itself.

There are lots of AHI compatible programs, these will usually benefit from an AHI compatible audio card.

As a rule of thumb, if your game runs inside WHDLoad, it will not have anything to do with a sound card. If it runs from the workbench and is reasonably modern (late 90s and on), or is for example an SDL port of an old PC game, it might be able to take advantage of AHI.

Indeed, it's only the later games that will use it, but it's nice to have. There are a few applications that will use it too, many music players and newer sound editors for example. But one of the biggest advantages is being able to record at CD quality too, which may or may not be of interest, but it's definitely something I've used in the past.

Being able to mix sources like AHI, Paula and CDDA together is a nice feature as well if you're still rocking an optical drive...

So I have ClassicWB installed in WinUAE and have also attached a directory as a second hard drive that I know has files in it. However, when I open it in Workbench I cannot see any files. Bear in mind it's well over 25 years since I used an Amiga so go easy on me on such a stupid question but how do I show the drive contents in WB?

But please, use a file manager. Dopus, FileMaster, SID, CLIMate, Filer, whatever. Workbench is not nice as a file manager, even though they tried to add such functionality in V36 and onwards.

Yes I tried Window->Show all files but the window is still empty. The directory is the demo directory from Pimiga which showed the contents fine in Workbench when I used it with the Pimiga system drive to boot from. But when I install my own system drive with ClassicWB there is nothing there.

I'll try a file manager instead.

Edit: Tried Dopus and still empty. I'm sure I attach the directory the same way I did before. In the WB window though it does say 1.3Gb in use so it must think there is something in there.

Edit2: I fixed it. I had added the directory as DH1 with a volume name of "Demos". It seems that ClassicWB already mounts a volume called Demos to a directory on the System drive and this was confusing WB in some way. I renamed the volume in WinUAE and now it opens and shows all folders/files.

Thanks
could it of worked on PAL? was it just a genlock or was it more? some of the effects look quite powerful like the manipulation of a single image.
