HDD no booting on real Amiga 1200 but working on WinUAE w/PISTORM

Hi friends,

I need some help from specialists...
To summarize, I prépared my Amiga HDD (20Go) with WinUAE following the tutorial from https://scunster.co.uk/?p=1257 and installed Classic Workbench Full for my 1200.
5 Partitions from DH0 to DH5 (PFS3 format, 3.9 Go each execpt DH0 (500Mo).
Everything works well when the HDD is mount in WinUAE. Games and demos are launching, every soft works.

But On my Amiga 1200, It doesn't boot straight. If I boot from Workbench 3.1 Install disk, I see the System disk (DH0) and DH1, the other disks being NDOS disks.
If I replug to my PC under WinUAE, no probs.
I worked a week on it, without success.

If I unplug my Pistorm 32Lite, it boots well and the 5 DH are working, but I miss some softs on these disks and have no menu (The worbench menu with Icons, and son on).
It says no WHDLoad installed, etc...So it starts but with nothing working.

To be honest, I don't undertand anymore...

What advice could you provide ? Is there any conflict with the PFS driver or scsi.device file ?

Thanks for helping.
Phil

Config : A1200 + Pistorm32Lite + HDD 20Mo (original one)

I'm still new at this but the device name should be different.
Here is a quote from website blow:
https://www.retro32.com/amiga-resour...guide-tutorial

"Where is says SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=scsi.device change it to SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=brcm-sdhc.device then save"

Maybe that is the problem, wrong device name?

You would be much better off using an SD card in the SD card slot on the Raspberry Pi, than trying to use an old separate HDD presumably plugged into the A1200's IDE port? The speed difference is huge.

I don't fully understand, since the title seems to say something different than the text. But anyway...

So it boots in WinUAE and on the Amiga *without* the PiStorm but not with the PiStorm? Then you simply have not correctly created the 1st FAT partition needed for the PiStorm to work.

The device name is irrelevant for the system to boot. Autoconfig takes care of that. You only need to tell e.g. HDToolBox the name of the device if you wish to modify the drive/partitions.

philgood1351fr.
We want to help you so write it again. A lot of information is mixed up.
The emulator uses a different .device to handle the HDD (this can be changed). Pistorm with emu68 uses a different .device to support the SD card and the IDE controller in the a1200 uses yet another. Large drives above 4GB are supported by the newer scsi.device (os3.5, os3.9, os3.1.4, os3.2 and newer)

Hi,
First of all thanks for your responses.
I was first convinced that I could easily use my old 20Gb Amiga HDD with the PiStorm32 Lite. But after a week, I forgave.
So, I decided to follow StevenJGore advice and disconnect my HDD.
Reformated my SD, installed PiStorm partition with 3.1 Kickrom, and partitioned my SD to make 5 disks.
Installed Worbench 3.1 successfully, DOPus, PFS3AIO, and all is good.
Currently copying old partitions (WHDLoad Games, Demo and so on).
Then, I'll need to installa PICASSO96, and few utils to complete.

Thanks DerSampler and Nor Bert for your help too.

Stay tuned if I encounter some more probs
Thanks a million.

With Pistorm and EMU68, you can use the ready-made SD image. CaffeineOS. There are torrents available on the net.
You can also use any kickstart you like. This is loaded on the SD card, where the files for the EMU68 emulator are located.
This allows you to use a kickstart that has support for disks larger than 4GB.
You can then still use the 20GB HDD as file storage.
