ParNET-cable compatible with PC?

Would the ParNET-cable be compatible with the PC parallell-port? Having successfully networked my Amiga via a nullmodem-cable, I realized I do have a ParNET-cable somewhere, which should be usable with MiamiDX and a suitable parallell-device.

Edit: Couldn't find the ParNET-cable. Did find a Laplink-cable though, which might do the trick - however not necessarily with MiamiDX.

here is another discussion about this issue. they have used PC2Amiga ( http://aminet.net/package.php?packag...c/PC2Am308.lha ). one mentioned he booted into dos (using ntfsdos to mount the ntfs partitions), which is more stable.
just read here: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=3211
maybe it helps a bit.

Edit a link from the thread above, describes how to fix the long filename issue under xp - http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=5159#post95461

Edit: big *hmmm* - did i missed the topic? do you want to surf the net using the parnet link? offhand, no clue here

You missed the topic. But not by much

Anyway, those links gave me a couple of ideas. They might prove useful to test the cable, before I start messing around with MiamiDX (for which it seems hard to find any driver, device or whatever, for the parallel-port). I doubt parnet.device is the way to go though, but then again. Who knows?

I have been looking at something similar. But from what I can tell,
it's restricted to Amiga <> Amiga or Amiga <> Linux, and would require
a working Linux-installation, which I haven't. I did download the
archive though, who knows when it might come in handy.

At the moment I'm working with the same WinXP-system that I use for
the serial link. I might have to abandon that if I am to
go parallel though, since it seems than Windows XP doesn't allow you
to communicate with the parallel port other than in a very restricted
way, and - of course - on Windows' terms. And we all know those terms
rarely makes for productive results..

hmm, no real clue now. i found some articles, dealing with the xp par port issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/254664
http://www.direct-io.com/index.htm?h...kb/q700006.htm

and ensure the bios option for lpt/partport is enabled (if such entry exists).

There exists a little program that free the serial and parallel ports from winblows slavery. Maybe one of those above links direct to it? If not, I'll find the correct proggie and share it here.

If you could do that, I'm sure it would be very much appreciated. Not only by me

Ah well. I suppose that's the end of it. The monitor gave in. :\ Thanks for all your help anyway, I'll probably get back to it once I can see what I'm doing again..

http://www.gm.iwarp.com/programs.htm <= take the package and parnet cable pinout from here.

For unblocking the parallel port of XP, download from somewhere a little app called "userport", it will do the trick.

Sorry for the long delay, chaps.
