Joint project dating back to 2012/13 between A-EON and Hyperion to port it to AmigaOS4 machines. Not sure anything has come of it as yet TBH.....

Edit: Then there is this "quick" compile that someone on Amiga.org did for Linux PPC:

This said, if this ever comes out it will probably only work on recent hardware.
Libra Office is pretty resource intensive so I would not be surprised if it were not that responsive on even a 060 (but maybe I am a bit too pessimistic).

Below, among the various items beside THIS image, there is a small article that mentions Libre Office.

Like with all new bloat/software I'm pretty sure that amount of RAM would be a problem. Realistically, something like an overckocked 060 with 64MB would be challenging enough.
A vampire v2 with 128MB + RTG is probably the very minimum to get something usable out of it on OS 3.x ?

Thanks for that! I missed the LibreOffice photo when I flicked through the webpage.

Unfortunately there seems to be very little official comment on the progress of the AmigaOS4 port since 2012/13, judging from my Google searches. The prevailing attitude from A-EON/Hyperion appears to be that it's a big project, so it'll be done when it's done (fair enough!). A-EON head-honcho Trevor Dickinson says as much when asked specifically about it in this 2013 interview:

http://obligement.free.fr/articles_t...kinson2_en.php

As I suspected, though, progress is slow and Hyperion are not devoting huge amounts of time to it. The last progress update I could find from October last year suggested that they were only working on the port 4-5 days per month:

http://translate.google.fr/translate...hl=fr&ie=UTF-8

Pity. LibreOffice is quite an impressive Office-style suite and AmigaOS4 desperately could do with one, along with a recent port of Firefox (aka Timberwolf) or an equivalent browser IMHO.

@eXeler0, ROC
TBH I think LibreOffice would chug on a high-end A4000 + 604 CyberstormPPC + RTG set-up, so I think you can safely forget about it on 060 and Vampire set-ups under AmigaOS 3.x (especially with Hyperion handling the port).

Once upon a time, however, Titan developed something called Papyrus Office. It was perhaps the best (if not the most amibitious) Office-style suite that was ever developed for AmigaOS 3.x/MorphOS systems.

https://web.archive.org/web/20050718.../e_papyrus.htm

http://www.titan-computer.com/html/papyrus.html

Sadly, it was a bit buggy and never progressed past the beta stage. While it it definitely got a MorphOS release, I'm not sure it was ever officially released for AmigaOS 3.x (might have to ask AmigaKit/Vesalia).

Anyway, I think the story went like this in the end.....after Titan released Papyrus Office in 2004/05, they encountered the perfect storm (hardware problems - faulty PPC card, financial difficulties, stagnant classic/next-gen Amiga market) and lost interest in developing Papyrus and all-things Amiga any further.

<cue Robert Smith / The Cure> How the end always is.......

I didn't think it was ever intended to be ported to 68k / OS3 - pretty sure it was planned for OS4 only. The screenshots floating around are all from OS4...

If you're talking about Papyrus Office, then check these links out:

http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=19426 (see post #2 from AmigaKit)

https://is.gd/TMTDp0 (see post #13 from AmigaKit)

http://www.totalamiga.org/issue24.html (68K review)

I've got a couple of MorphOS machines (Pegasos and 68K), so I was following the progress of Papyrus Office at the time. There definitely was a 68K version completed and AmigaKit even posted a screenshot of it running on his A1200T. Unfortunately the link to the screenshot is dead now and it's unclear whether it was ever sold through the webstore. The old Vesalia link in my previous post, however, had both the 68K and MorphOS versions listed for 129 EUR at the bottom of the webpage. No price for an AmigaOS4 was listed and I don't think a version was ever coded as Titan never received a development machine from Hyperion.

Nope, I was talking about LibreOffice - some people were discussing whether it would run well enough on an 060, which is kinda moot if it's only ever compiled for OS4.

@Daedalus
Yep, discussion of a 68K port is a bit moot with Hyperion handling the port of LibreOffice methinks and AmigaOS4 being the sole focus of everything that has been mentioned about the port thus far. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the OS4 port will be with us for some time yet if it gets completed either.

Anyway, that's why I brought up Papyrus Office - it'd be interesting to know if a 68K port was ever commercially released and, if so, how well the bloody thing ran. AmigaKit definitely had a complete pre-release version (sans English HD installer), but little is known about whether they received the installer they needed from Titan back in 2005 and then made it available for online purchase. I guess we'll have to ask AmigaKit to find out one way or the other.

Did they have an office suite on Nextstep 3.0 / 4.0 68k?

i'm unsure how that related to Amiga..... but NeXT had a whole display postscript engine. I would be amazed if no DTP software existed.

And anyway, in NeXT's target market LaTeX would be really common anyway.

No idea about NeXT, but in 1993 I was working as a student in The Netherlands with a 68k Sun Workstation that had an office suite. I think it might have been Adobe FrameMaker.

Can't remember if it was 68020 or 68030 based. My workstation didn't have a floppy drive, so I had to pop into a coworkers office to copy my Aminet downloads onto a PC floppy for my Amiga 500 at home!

I'd think for 680x0 based systems a port of Abiword or Gnumeric would be more likely than LibreOffice. Wasn't there some sort of GTK -> MUI wrapper at some point. Ah, here it is;

https://sourceforge.net/projects/gtk-mui/
http://o1i.blogspot.com/

If it's accurate, and doesn't need any changes to the sources, could they just be recompiled? Granted, that only gives word processor and spreadsheet, but they're quite functional.
