Save Disk Contribution for TOSEC

catch by a very good idea by Adderly that was working on categorize BTTR savedisks and a few pm exchanges in the middle of the other night (but don't you people sleep?) i start this thread for the collection of save game to preserve and tosecize.
the goal of this little side project is to pile up a nice stash of savedisks that, either for cheating reasons, like super party in rpgs, or (i add) particular interesting reasons, like very hidden easter eggs, like the hiding and famed scene in Loom (ok i have selfish reasons there ) deserve to be preserved and tosecized.
realistically, for now, let's forget the interesting reasons bit, i think that super party and end sequences are enough for now.

the way Adderly and i propose to do this, is with this format:

Game: Pool of Radiance
HOL: http://hol.abime.net/1099
Notes: savedisk is an empty dos disk with label "poolsave"

Game: Ufo - Enemy Unknown
HOL: http://hol.abime.net/1788
Notes: "UFOSaves" as disklabel for the save disk

with your savedisks in the zone to be checked and renamed. the criteria you will use for submitting the savedisks are:
1) the saved position will be either at the immediate start of the game in case of an RPG, with the stats and items and all you can think of, at the best you could set them or before the final confrontation for any kind of games.
2) character' names and personalizations should be usable by anyone, so no insulting names or random typing on the keyboard. use your sense of decency
3) add some note as for the usability of your save and particular indications: for instance there's a save of Black Crypt on aminet which has some items hacked and the user should be warned of their use. this info, while being not tosec relevant, it is useful to know.

that's what i can think of for now. Adderly will surely add something more on topic, and start with his nice stash of BTTR renamings.

Nice thread start Marco!

I'll keep this post free for the list or other additions and merge with results from my older thread here: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=22601

another list entry:
Game: Bard's Tale, The - Tales Of The Unknown
HOL: http://hol.abime.net/38
Notes: The second disk (characters disk) can be created from within the game

BTTR savedisk investigation result

So here we go. After renaming of all the BTTR save disks i found out the following:

1) The Tosec Disk:
Loom (1990)(Lucasfilm)[save disk].adf 329ED70E

has the disklabel "MonkeyIslandSaveDisk" and two Monkey Island savegames on it. If BTTR is right it can be used as savedisk for all Lucasfilm Games, including:
Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders, Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2 - LeChuck's Revenge, Maniac Mansion.

->BTTR used 4 different labeled zip files for these games and all zips are a copy of this Tosec disk. Maybe this disks should be renamed as "Lucasfilm Games universal save disk" (after testing if this is right).

2) The Tosec disk:
Adventures of Willy Beamish, The (1992)(Dynamix)[save disk].adf 592E691B

is just an empty disk with label "empty" and is identical with all these BTTR savedisks:
King's Quest (19xx)(Sierra) all versions
Space Quest (199x)(Sierra) all versions
Leisure Suit Larry (19xx)(Sierra) all versions
Police Quest (19xx)(Sierra) all versions
Adventures of Willy Beamish, The (1992)(Dynamix)
Ruesselsheim (1994)(Impressions)(De)
Rise of the Dragon (1991)(Dynamix)
Quest for Glory 2 - Trial by Fire (1992)(Sierra)
Neuromancer (1989)(Interplay)
Manhunter - New York (1989)(Sierra)
Manhunter 2 - San Francisco (1989)(Sierra)
Conquests of the Longbow (1992)(Sierra)
Code Name - Iceman (1990)(Sierra)
Hero's Quest - So You Want to Be a Hero (1989)(Sierra)
Heart of China (1992)(Dynamix)
Gold Rush! (1989)(Sierra)
Ashes of Empire (1992)(Mirage)
Black Cauldron, The (1987)(Sierra - Disney)
Bundesliga Manager (1989)(Software 2000)
Bundesliga Manager Professional (1991)(Software 2000)
Chrono Quest (1988)(Psygnosis)
Colonel's Bequest, The (1989)(Sierra)
Conquests of Camelot - The Search for the Grail (1990)(Sierra)
Detroit (1994)(Impressions)
Dynatech (1993)(Magic Bytes)
Eishockey Manager (1993)(Software 2000)(De)
Elvira - Mistress of the Dark (1990)(Accolade)
Elvira II - The Jaws of Cerberus (1992)(Accolade)
Faery Tale Adventure, The (1986)(MicroIllusions)

a DAT file for scanning your savedisks downloads/collections can be found here: http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=268000&postcount=10

one thing i thought : the games that save on their own disks: you are doing already the other thread/project to preserve a clean line of those; should we do one of these things:
1) for the dos games, make an empty disk and move the relevant files there
2) keep a version of the original disk in the savegames dat, whereas it should have beed flaffed [a] in the normal games dat
3) bundle games for family/serie on empty disks: for instance, the gold box serie of games, or the ones you have already done for monkey island
4) other solutions?

hey thanks for have cleaned that willy beamish named disk, i had reported it on the tosec thread ages ago, but i just believed that it was only misunderstood for elvira mistress of the dark disk. good work!

To re-inforce the point I made ages back when the save disks were first mentioned: games that save onto the actual game disk or games that provide a disk to be used as a savedisk in the set of disks in the box rather than asking you to create your own should only be included in the normal games dat.

and on that i agree, but the goal here is to have a special single save-disk for game/multiple games to use for super saves or special saves. i would like to see how it grows the number of the disk based on submission (if any) before to see the question better.

BTW, nice start ppl

I've corrected the couple of non-TNC names (Cannon Fodder 2 entries) & attached a new dat into the dats thread.

I also make the following query & suggestion (and yes I know this is a first version dat ) :-

1) Cannon Fodder 2 (1993)(Virgin)[save disk][a ADD]
what's ADD stand for ?

2) Remove the (Disk x of y) part from the games that the user created the save disk rather than it coming with the game, with the (Disk x of y) part also

being renamed on the adf's left behind in the main Games dat.

ie.
Ambermoon (1993)(Thalion)(De)(Disk 10 of 10)(J)[save disk]
-> Ambermoon (1993)(Thalion)(De)[J - save disk]

Bard's Tale II, The - The Destiny Knight (1988)(Electronic Arts)(Disk 2 of 2)(Character Disk)
-> Bard's Tale II, The - The Destiny Knight (1988)(Electronic Arts)[Character Disk - save disk]

Bard's Tale, The - Tales of the Unknown (1986)(Electronic Arts)(Disk 2 of 2)(Character)
-> Bard's Tale, The - Tales of the Unknown (1986)(Electronic Arts)[Character - save disk]

Crystal Dragon (1994)(Black Legend)(De)(Disk 4 of 4)[save disk]
-> Crystal Dragon (1994)(Black Legend)(De)[save disk]

3) I assume the rest of the save disks in Games will be moved over too in due course. Currently still in Games are :-

Ambermoon v1.01 (1993-10-22)(Thalion)(De)(Disk 10 of 10)(J)
Hound of Shadow, The (1989)(Electronic Arts)[h ACC][User Disk - save disk]
Hound of Shadow, The (1989)(Electronic Arts)[User Disk - save disk]
Ishar 3 - The Seven Gates of Infinity (1994)(Silmarils)[h Dracs][save disk with enhanced characters]
Special Forces (1992-02-10)(MicroProse)[a2][Roster Disk - save disk]
Special Forces (1992-02-10)(MicroProse)[a3][Roster Disk - save disk]
Special Forces (1992-02-10)(MicroProse)[a][Roster Disk - save disk]
Special Forces (1992-02-10)(MicroProse)[Roster Disk - save disk]
Ultimate Soccer Manager (1995)(Impressions)[h Dracs][save disk - extra money]

Yep, it sounds good! I just thought I needed to get that point in quick before anyone started moaning (pre-emptive strike if you will )

cool! with a little luck i'll get back at playin rpgs the next weekend, and i'll start checking what already there is of supersaves. from my memory, some have improvements needed.
now that i think about it, one of the characteristics of the savegames that should be discussed is the degree of of customization. for instance, should or should not be accepted as good a savegame, let's say for Eye of the Beholder which has some powerful uniques to be edited so that the same unique is available for all of 6 players? i would say no, to preserve at least a part of the spirit of the game. what do you think guys?

That should be deleted. Internal renaming stuff . I used [a Adderly] for disk from my own collection, [a ADD] for disk that came from the Zone/other downloads etc. Seems i missed this one while cleaning up...

Me thinks "sd" is not intuitive enough as a short for save disk. Maybe [savedisk] as one word (ok, only one char shorter...)

I think [sd] is fine!

it's no different to [t =x] and [tr De] or [cr] etc..

atm, there doesn't seem a need to shorten [save disk] imo, but having said that...they're all in a save disk dat so it could even be omitted completely

Just found on http://software.amigafuture.de/
26 different savegames. If you can't read German: go to "Spielstände" on their category list, then klick on the name of the game to get to the download page.
