Alien Drug Lords The Chyropian Connection - Manual & Map

The manual (called the "Xeno Dossier") would be an interesting read. I really hope somebody saved a copy. There was also a map of "Chyropia" that Panther Games were selling for $5. Wonder if anyone opted for it.

What about the magazine review by Joystick in April 1991, issue 15? CU Amiga was going to do one, but for whatever reason, never printed it.

Are you looking for specific bits of information?

I had a quick look. The review first speaks about the story/settings and then describes the gameplay. The yellow frames basically says: sounds good, graphics not so much, 4 disks -> probably a long game -> good.

Yes, I was hoping it might mention some details from the manual "Xeno Dossier". And it's always interesting to hear the opinion of a game from that era, but from what you've read it sounds like the reviewer didn't spend too much time playing the game any further.

Thanks for taking a look for me.

There was also another review from PowerPlay but it's short and only gives a 57% rating.

I think I'd be interested in reading these magazines in other languages in the future. Anyone use a OCR program/service they would recommend?

Here is a quick translation of the story elements in the review. I skipped jokes/comments and took some liberties:

Quote:
As a member of the Celestial Investigation Agency, your mission is to destroy the whole stock of Xylopsiline.
Since this powder appeared the local crime syndicate got more powerful. A mysterious entity claims to have found an antidote. The powder is so dangerous that consumers go as crazy as auto-mutilating.
[...]
An agent informs you about a lead located in the Theta Zorias solar system, on planet Chyropia.
You fly your spaceship there.
But I guess this is far from what you hoped to find.

I can't really tell how long the reviewer played the game. He states that you can later add more characters to your party, up to 5. But did he really play that far or was it part of what the developer/publisher told him?

Actually, that has to be from the manual (Xeno Dossier). That's a lot more than what I knew before. The game doesn't tell the player much when it starts.

At this point, I'd be grateful just for someone's vague recollection of the what the game's manual (Xeno Dossier) said.

Doesn't seem like the reviewer played much at all. Recruiting can be done very early in the game. I'd say it is expected of the player before starting any part of the main mission.

You offer mercenaries money and afterwards they will continue to ask for more pay through out the game. If you don't give them enough, they leave. More money can be made from playing at the casino. The different types of aliens have skills that can become useful during the mission. They also provide some entertainment value as you encounter different situations.

The game utilizes synthesized speech.

Oh, is that all I would need to pay just to take a look at the manual.
Doesn't include the $5 map of Chyropia, though.

Wondering if the collector that recently bought a complete opened boxed copy of this game would be willing to scan the manual?
