EAB Annual IRC Gathering 2017?

It's been ten years since the last EAB Xmas IRC Chat, and I know that IRC isn't the "cool" thing to do nowadays, but I and others still use it, and there's a trove of people on the EAB IRC channel constantly although we just ignore it and never talk in it (which spurred my making of this topic just now), so I thought, why not bring back this cute tradition we had every year from 2001 to 2007?

Now traditionally it was held on Christmas time, because I think you can be sure almost everyone will be on holiday then, but we don't necessarily need to stick to those dates, I know a lot of people wouldn't be able to join because of family commitments (I am on that camp myself).

So perhaps we can pick a best date guess of when to do it and hit those text screens for some live banter.

Anyway, discuss, perhaps everyone thinks it's a stupid idea, but I also noticed a lot of people use the Tapatalk "live chat" feature, meaning the "need" for live Amiga conversation is there, just dumbed down on a pocket device. It would be great to have the IRC be more active. Some times people have questions or are troubleshooting something, and the best possible help could come from live chatting with someone over there.

I'm digressing now. I leave the topic to the community.
Let's party like it's... 2007

Seems like IRC isn't popular at all though and only us old dogs keep using it, judging by this topic's "popularity" haha.

Well, the topic is also more close to the bottom seen from the board topic sectors, so it is for sure not the most easy to be discovered

Ah, the good old irc days. Perhaps not here with eab but a favorite past time of mine. I wonder if mirc is still around and if it works with Windows 10. Lol.

I still live in IRC, but I just (still) can't bother with custom servers for one or two channels.

What can another window do?
I mean, if you use a decent client, it should be no bother!
I use Irssi on Linux and it doens't matter how many servers I connect to, all status/server shit is displayed in one window, and everything else are chat windows just like normal (with an indicator of which server/room you are on)

It's very clean, tidy and nice.
Also yeah, that's mainly the EAB activity, joins and parts

I still love AmIRC and I use it as my primary client to connect to my bouncer/proxy

Yea, it's nice for a text based client and I use it when I'm not at my own computers, but I still can't stand it as my home client For local use a proper GUI based client is still much more comfortable.

So I finally got mIRC installed and I'm the only one on #abime.net - I guess these thigns really do need to be scheduled.... I now realize how much i miss IRC. Been hanging around on #apollo-team for a bit lately. Nothing like real-time help and feedback.

My IRC box has died and I haven't been able to replace it yet!
But still up for a meeting, we should organize it indeed.

So Akira, is there going to be another EAB Annual IRC Gathering for 2018? Did 2017 go according to plan?

I'm in for a 2018 gathering \o/

Unfortunately Akira hasn't been on since 1st August 2018, so god knows if he'll ever see this. I'll keep an eye out for him on IRC n if he eventually pops on I'll give him a nudge to see if this is worth it
