Pango - needs cracking

Heya guys,

In TOSEC there are these files:

... Pango Fun (1989)(Proxxima)(beta)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr Heresy].adf
... Pango Fun (1989)(Proxxima)(beta)(Disk 2 of 2)[cr Heresy].adf
... Pango (1990)(Proxxima)(Disk 1 of 2)[cp manual code].adf
... Pango (1990)(Proxxima)(Disk 2 of 2).adf

Unfortunately the proper release isn't cracked

In this thread there are the required codes from the author: Pango - amiga game

Would be cool not to have to refer to these though and be able to type in anything...

Any coder / cracker willing to undertake this; should be quite simple I'd imagine?

Sorry dude, but you've got quite a bit more work ahead of you

1). The game reinstalls the game loader, which knocks out all of your crack code. Try playing the game and then exiting back to the start and you'll find the "piracy protection" screen is now back.

2). Pango does a checksum on track zero for disk identification purposes, your version will correctly load up disk 2, but when it needs to swap back to disk 1, it will fail because obviously you've modified the bootblock which the game checks.

My version disk 1 in the zone, just use the disk 2 as provided by the programmer of the game.

Hi, this game have some interesting protection/encryption routines.

You can find embedded some source code fragments with amusing comments/variables (in italian language).

Well, a DOS file version can be made with all files decrypted..
(the second loader, for the levels, use sectors tables at $7e8c, $b942 and $b796).

Bye

Only the encryption used to hide the first loader is somewhat interesting yet still very easy to defeat (and works on 68000 only), rest of the protection isn't anything special at all.

Hi StingRay, I think that the rest is not for really 'protection' but only for 'hide' data from ripping.
This encryption routine is really oversized (and slow..).

Cheers,

Home now and have tested your cracked Disk 1 Galahad.

...used the level code to access Disk 2, died, went back to the main menu and then started a new game.

Code:
LEVEL CODE
----------------------------
LEVELS 7-12 atabaques
All is working perfectly as expected
