searching for an Amiga laserdisc drive

Hi guys & girls,

Anyone by chance has a laserdisc drive for the Amiga for sale ?

A friend of mine is looking for this. I only know that 'Dragon Lair' was released on laser cd, but maybe there were even more games ?

Laserdisc FOR Amiga?

I think the Amiga interfaced with any laserdic player by means of some interface... Dragon's Lair is not driven by an Amiga methinks, Maddog McCree is.

Yeah, right Akira, interface is what I meant.
Do you know what I am bubbling about here ?
I for myself have never ever heard about or seen such a thing, but a guy I know is searching for something like that.

Also I don't know about games for this, but not long ago I saw somebody selling a Dragon's Lair laser disc game for Amiga on a Austrian online auction house. So it may exist !

Could you or anyone else please explain to me what this laser disc player is ? Sounds interesting !

The only laser disc player I am aware of is a CDVideo™ player. IIRC, the discs are gold plated on the playing surface and are about 300mm in diameter, and were sold in sleeves similar to vinyl LPs.

The quality was superb, but the discs and player were very expensive. The format was short-lived, being superseded by the far cheaper and more compact Video CD and CDi discs which paved the way for DVD.

Having said all this, I'm not sure about the advantages or practicalities of releasing 'Dragon's Lair' or any other similar title on this medium.

Thanks for the info and the link, Boo Boo. I never would have thought it.

I never actually saw a CDVideo™ player, but I borrowed a sample disc which came free with the player owned by an erstwhile colleague's father to see if my CD-i 470 player would play it.

The CD-i player thought it was an Audio CD and would only play the soundtrack! The sample disc looked just like a gold-plated CD.

Yes, it came bundled with my CD-i player. It was almost impossible to get past the practice session using the unresponsive standard CD-i controller, which was only any good for playing PhotoCDs. But it was awesome played with a CD-i mouse which I added later.

They used laser discs, interesting mech, like looking at a huge DVD laser, made by Sony. although I recall the discs to be silver, not gold.
