A590, EEPROM instead of EPROM, possible?

Hi!

I have a A590 HD with ver 6.0 i think.
Now i want to upgrade it to ver 7.0.

Can i use EEPROM for this, will a AT28C64B15 work?
Or must i use a EPROM like 27C64 for it to work?

/dan

AT28C64B15 looks like it is pin compatible so it should work, otherwise yu can use 27C128 or 27C256 if you can't find any 27c64

Thanks for the info!

So there is no general issues of using EEPROM instead of EPROM in a
A590 then?

And the speed of the chip, will 150ns do?

Let me tell you my experience,
As a test, I have A2091 SCSI controller connected to A500 (v2.1 Sys ROM) using Zorro adapter, with v6.6 roms.
I'm using SST 27sf256 EEPROMs. The ROMs for A570 and A2091 are the same, so I tried to burn the new v7 ROMs to the chips by filing them in 8k increments.
The A500 would not autoboot, and if I turn off autoboot, the HDToolbox would not see the HD.

I burned v6.6 ROMS same way, and they worked fine. So, at least I know the bigger EEPROMs work.

I don't know if the problems with v7 is the System v2.1 ROMs, or the card, or the adapter, or just bad ROM dumps.

Let us know how it goes. I will try it on my A2000, and see if it works on it.

Nice, i think i will try with the EEPROM then, easier, as i dont have an
EPROM eraser.

Great info, so you have burned and used EEPROM and get it to work,
at least with v.6.6.
I will try v7.0 with the AT28C64B15 EEPROM then.

It worked with v6.6, no boot with v7.
I did order 8k EEPROMs from China, so I will try it and see if it works with that.

I want v7 so I can use bigger HDs.

Me to! I want 7.0, so i will order some AT28C64B15 and try, they are pretty cheap.
I report here if it works or not.

Good to know the EEPROM could work too

Out of curiosity, which is the programmer you have been using?

Is TL866II capable of that? For the 27C400, I normally use that with the adapter

I'm using AT28C64B's with my A590 and A2091 so I can confirm they work just fine programmed with the TL866II

So, now i have got my AT28C64B15's and burned the v7.0 images in them.
Worked very well, and the A590 boots up in my A500 just fine.

How do you check what version the A590 have in Amiga OS, from cli or WB ?

I got the same result when I just tried it in an emulator.

I got my eeproms.
Got it working. Apparently the HD I was testing with did not like v7 ROMs for some reason. I have a 9GB one and this one works fine.

Great! if you run "version scsi.device" in cli, what version reports it?
