[Found: Monaco GP] Arcade - top down racer - with tunnel sections

In the 80's, there was an arcade coin up machine that I played with, a racer in top down view, you overtake cars with your fast racer.

And everytime you would drive into a tunnel, the screen would go completely black and you just see the little light cones of your car's lights and you have to react quickly to upcoming cars ahead in the little light area.

Sadly, I don't remember the name of the arcade game, but I never saw something similar on any computer or console.

Looks similar, I have looked up videos on YouTube, but I can't find that tunnel feature.
Edit: and that's decisive. There is also Major Motion on Amiga which I owned in original, but it does not have that tunnel.

I have a memory of this but can't remember exactly what it's called... would need to go through all car games in MAME to see a screenshot.

There's something similar i.e. tunnels / headlights in Over Top but that's too recent:

Also, if you ask the question in the MAMEWorld Forums, I'm sure someone will know

There was a version on Amiga Power Coverdisk 37a - just called Monaco. No where near as good as the arcade though.

I own one of the machines from 1979. It is a technical marvel as it's one of the last games to not have a CPU and consequently has 3 HUGE pcb's inside all stuffed full of discrete logic chips

There is also Super Speed Race CL5 by Taito which is pretty much the same but uses a Z80 (according to the net - I don't own one). I don't know which came first or if one licensed from the other (or copied - it happened a lot back then).

To be fair, there are a bunch of versions. Midway had one too.

AAh Monaco GP 1979: I'd pay a lot of cash to get one at home. So cool graphics & sound, and no CPU at all so it cannot be properly emulated in MAME... But the repairs may be tricky...
