A600 power supply options?
Hi everyone,
I have an A600 mobo on the way for my project, but nothing to power it with I've also searched aminet for PC PSU mods, but came up with nothing. Can I use an A500 PSU? This'll do at first while I'm working the hardware configuration out. Can I modify a PC PSU? This is what I'd eventually like to do. PZ. |

you can indeed use the A500 psu, this will provide about 35 watts of power for your A600.
You can indeed modify a PC PSU ( i have done this countless times) heres a brief (and simple) overview see easy peasy if you need anymore help just let me know. for part 1 you could just use a standard floppy drive connector to the A600 mobo and use the blue -12 (pin12) and place this in the central slot of the A600 power socket (thus completing the circuit ) you will still need to make a power on button but thats easy Last edited by Zetr0; 14 December 2006 at 02:39. |

How cool is that? Thanks heaps man
I don't think I'll do the floppy drive connector thing though, as I plan on using at least one FDD. I'll just find what pin is what on the normal power connector PZ. *edit* - Didn't think it would be that simple...not like a C-64 that has both AC & DC currents coming from the PSU. Sorry, but I don't understand the pic...it looks like the connector is flat
I assumed the A500 & A600 plugs where the same...are they different? If so, then the pic makes sense to me PZ. |

A500,A600 & A1200 all have the same power connector
you are viewing from the top. the arrow points towards the back of the amiga the A500 psu's provided arround 35Watts of power The standard A600 and A1200 only provided (at best) 25Watts you will need to connect the following 1. white wire to pin 12 (blue) on atx (provides -12) 2. red wire to pin 4 ( 6,19 or 20) on atx (provide +5)*can connect to molex* 3. brown wire to pin 10 on atx (provide +12) *can connect to molex* 4. black wire to any black on atx (provides ground) *can connect to molex* hope that explains it a bit better you will atill need to make an single state on / off button, to do this connect a (on / off) button to the follwing green wire from atx (pin 14) to switch black wire from atx (any COM) to switch and hey presto you have switch |

Thanks heaps Zetro, I REALLY DO appreciate it
It was just the connector switch in that second pic that threw me off, as it doesn't really look like the standard five pin square plug...you know? Yeah, I'll be using the power switch and reset buttons in the PC case wired in as per your initial diagram...perfect! PZ. |

I love modding too Zetro...my stupidity when it comes to software and understanding non-standard schematics is where I come undone...lol
Once I've done the 600 and absorbed it into my rig I'll post pics somewhere on here, but without an Amiga in it there isn't much point yet PZ. |
