Can't Create Workbench 3.1 Disks
Some of my WB 3.1 disks have decided to go bad on me, so I'm in the process of trying to create new ones using some .adf images I've found and Amiga Explorer. The problem is that no matter what I do the disk image won't transfer over correctly. The resulting disk image is always labeled DOSA (the A is inverse) and obviously doesn't actually work. I've tried a few different WB 3.1 image files and they all do the same thing. Game disk all seem to transfer just fine, it's the WB 3.1 images that won't work. Any idea on what could be wrong? I'm 99% sure the images I'm using are good.

Are the floppy disks you're using for the WB adf's good?
Is it just the WB adf's that wont write to these disks or any adf? Does copying just the contents of the adf's to floppy work O.K? |

Yes I'm using new disks since I don't trust the old ones anymore.
Just the WB ADFs. I tried a few game adfs and they worked just fine. |

I haven't used AExplorer in a while. Is it possible to view the contents of the adf's and just copy the contents over to the floppies?

What's the easiest way to open a ADF file up and see what's inside? WinUAE?

The disks are good, WinUAE can read them. I'm not sure how to get the contents of the disks *out* of the emulator though.
It occurs to me, could the problem be that I'm doing the disk transfer in WB 1.3? My original 3.1 disks were from when I had my 1200, now I'm using a 2000 with WB 1.3 on it which I'm attempting to upgrade to 3.1. Could the disks be good afterall but just not able to display in WB 1.3 (I'm not sure why that would happen, but I thought I'd just mention it). |

It depends on what Kickstart you're using. KS1.3 wont read KS2.0> disks at all. WB1.3 using KS2.0> should read the disks O.K
How are you writing the adf's to the floppy disks? |

Ahh that could be the problem. I haven't upgraded my KS roms yet. I have them, but I didn't want to put them in until I made the disks because I wasn't sure if WB 1.3 would work with the 3.1 roms. I'll put them in and try again.

Worth a try.
AExplorer is the easiest way of getting files onto the Amiga. I use TSGUI for writing ADF's back to disk. How much ram do you have? |

have you tried to archive the disk and transferring it to a 720k PC disk and just mounting the disk on Amiga (PC0 and unarchiving and writing it back with an ADF2DISK tool? Works well, but you do need to have the tools on the Amiga.

I think he's made the disks, it's just that KS1.3 can't read them.

Yep that was the issue. Now that I have KS 3.1 the disks show up. The only weird thing is that the colors on WB 1.3 are very odd. Oh well, I'll have WB 3.1 on there soon enough.

Yes on WB 2.x onward the icon colors are reversed/off so they do not look right.
