Hooooo WHDLoad does not release memory

Hello,

I'm experiencing a strange problem (well ... more than one really ...) with WHDLoad: when I quit a game, memory is not released.
Any suggestion ?

Thankyou

Weird. Never experienced anything like that. How much memory should you have? Are you running anything else in the background that might cause problems?

I have the 2 megs of chip RAM of the A1200 plus 4 megs fast RAM of the blizzard 1220.
I've tried many combinations but the problem does not disappear.
I'm pretty sure that whdload remains in memory because often I get also the error "audio device busy" if I try to start another whdload ...
I don't know if there is a good process viewer/manager for the amiga ...

Yes, it sounds like it's still in the Amiga's memory somehow. I don't know if something like SnoopDos will be of any use?

Or something like Scout, perhaps?

Hi, which version of WHDLoad are you using?
Grahams advice is sound. If you use Scout, you can look at active tasks to see which is utilising any memory.

Are you using a pirated WHDLoad keyfile? It seems that 99% of the WHDLoad problems are caused by dodgy cracks.

Well ... I have a regular registered version of WHDLoad, the version should be the last: I downloaded it a couple of months ago.
I've also tried killing the WHDLoad process which remains active after the quit (using an utility called AccessTask (http://aminet.net/util/cli/AccessTask.lha), but also after killing it memory is not released and audio device is still locked.
As soon as I can I'll try Scout and post the screenshot (I'm in office now ) ...

If you have an OS file cache will that not eat RAM if you read data from hard drive?

I confirm I have version 16.9 of WHDLoad ... still haven't been able to make the "screenshot".
I also checked that my prefs file is empty (all lines commented out) and tried to disable the preload (by removing the tooltype) without any result

Have you tried running a game without the extra ram installed?

Tried to phisically removed any RAM expansion: nothing changed.
Another interesting thing is that if I configure/install an A1200 with WinUAE with the same features (same chip ram, fast ram, processor, kickstart, workbench and so on ...) everything goes well ...
I think I'll continue to poweron-poweroff ...

Try booting with no startup-sequence and see if that helps, might be something in your startup-sequence that is clashing with WHDLoad.

Indeed.

Do you have any other hardward installed (other than the accelerator/ram)?

Hmm..

Odd. Nothing suspect there then.

I'd just do what galahad suggested, try from booting with no s-s and see if you get the same results.
